Media release 2 January 2012

SEQ: If the fares go up, transit priority must go up too!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has called for the return of the Coronation Drive bus lane.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Public transport fare levels on the TransLink network have increased by 15% on the 2nd January 2012 (1). While we welcome the news that 140,000 extra seats will be available on the bus network, we also believe now that passengers are paying more, they should be given priority over general traffic, particularly on Coronation Drive."

"It is the least that Brisbane City Council could do - prioritise it's own buses to encourage patronage."

"There are currently three high-frequency routes on Coronation Drive- BUZ 444, BUZ 412 and P88, returning the bus lane to Coronation Drive, even if only during peak hour, would speed up total travel times on what is one of Brisbane's worst roads. It also would be handy should a BUZ 400 be extended to the Centenary Suburbs."

"Why pay 15% more for the same slow trip on Coronation Drive?"
