Australia's first "townhouses" came into being precisely because they were adjacent to rail, tram and shopping centres, which was handy because they hadn't invented the car as yet  :D



History repeats.


BTW half the row of the above picture - in Buckingham St Surry Hills - are still standing, they are about 15 min walk from Redfern Station Sydney and no doubt a tram or omnibus would have gone past the end on Cleveland Street  :-t
Also the "side row" you can just glimpse are still there in their entirety in Belvoir street. I wonder if the Ipswich ones will last as long  >:D
