Howdy,

This morning a train failed at Goodna.  sh%t happens.

I travelled to Ipswich, late counter peak. The train arrived at Goodna at 9.26am, about 20 minutes late. The pax loadings ex Goodna through to East Ipswich were solid.

No one that I spoke too was upset. There was good, clear communication.  But, do you know what made my day?

The 9.35am Rosewood was held, we arrived at Ippy around 9.44am.  AND the train was waiting for the punters.  Well done Queensland Rail.  The Rosewood train left about 9.46am.

This is good!

I forgot the mention the second ..

The go card reader west Goodna failed. The station staff put a notice on it, to the effect that it was not working.

Well done ..

(Before you go ballistic, apparently there was an instruction that such signs were forbidden ... )

This is what really differentiates Queensland Rail from Translink. Queensland Rail deserves congratulations for making such a huge effort in the customer service area. I often see staff being abused for things that are Translink's fault, and yet they still maintain a happy smile and move on to the next passenger to assist them. Good on Queensland Rail! Always such a pleasure to travel on their trains!

That's the good thing about the Ipswich/Rosewood shuttle connections, they will virtually always hold the Rosewood train at Ipswich until the ex-City service has arrived.
All opinions stated are my own and do not reflect those held by my employer.

I can understand why, anybody could print one out at home and sticky tape it on in the morning then rightfully claim they couldn't tag on....

Perhaps Translink should have "official" out of operation covers issued to station staff to use temporarily until the machines are brought back online?

However, I'd have to point out that it wouldn't be required if it was a through service.

In this case the reader was paired, the other operational.   An official sign would be a good idea as it does stop a lot of confusion at readers not working.  Some notice, some don't ... lol

I have seen signs taped to readers on buses as well, placed there by drivers.

Translink equipment fail‽... Don't be silly *runs*

The readers fail on buses too, with signs varying from hand written on ticket paper to printed A4 sheets with various lettering styles. I'm all for official covers issued to all operators on all modes.

Yes, agree. A simple standard official sign would be useful, avoids the home grown signs and users can be confident.  It will stop a lot of confusion, which is a good thing.
