I would just close the off-ramps and on-ramps to all but buses except Alice Street.  Keep connection to ICB/Coro Drive and wait till it needs major refurbishment then demolish from Alice St to North Quay.

But Turbot street? As far as I'm aware no buses use Turbot street offramp, nor is there much need for them to. But for cars/trucks it's arguably the best way into much of the city/valley from the south IMO as it joins straight up to Wickham street. I don't see any buses changing to use Turbot street from the south any time soon

I think you could realistically convert the left hand lane of the CCB from south of the river to Margaret Street off ramp to a bus lane tomorrow. This would greatly benefit CCB rocket buses and it's already the lane least used by cars.

Turbot St was mentioned as it is through CBD route. Plenty of options to get into the CBD without having to use it. Particularly if the delivers are the only ones allowed in

Quote from: verbatim9 on July 04, 2024, 12:14:58 PMRemoving the Rex and building a tunnel from Toowong Cemetery to Buranda wouldn't just be for aesthetic reasons, it would alleviate a lot of traffic along Coronation Drive.

I would disagree.
I would say a lot of traffic on Coro Drive is because of all the offices and apartments along Coro Drive, people going to UQ, people going to Indro, and of course people in the western suburbs heading to and from the CBD.
A tunnel that spits you out at the cemetery is no real help for any of this.

There would be on and off ramps at High St and Benson St / Moggill Road, as well as somewhere in West End and Highgate Hill. As with past posts, I  have never said anything nor implied of a direct tunnel with no exits or entrances.

QuoteEdinburgh's Mobility Revolution! 🚋🚌

Edinburgh is reimagining its city centre with a bold plan to create a large "car-lite" zone. Motor vehicles will be rerouted around the city centre, freeing up space for pedestrians and cyclists.

Key highlights include:
- A £2bn north-south tram line connecting hospitals and universities.
- A superhighway to fast-track buses and bikes through the congested west of the city.

This transformation promises a more sustainable, efficient, and people-friendly urban environment.

They tend to avoid mid point exits/entrances because they take up so much land and are expensive.
For example the Milton and CBD exits were abandoned from Legacy way, and the Gympie Rd tunnel wont have an interchange at Chermside.

West end would not be able to deal with motorway traffic being dumped into it.

The idea of any of us supporting new inner city motorways is gross and incomprehensible to me.

Yeah, West end is a sought after and nice suburb specifically because its location on the bend in the river means it doesn't get through traffic, and it gives public and active transport a natural advantage.

Cutting a hole in the middle of it to allow more traffic to get in and out will permanently alter this.

And we've seen what happened with Westconnex when they funneled extra traffic into Balmain.

For example, I could imagine an interchange at Benson st would encourage more people to drive to work to the offices around Toowong or into UQ instead of using the train?

Likewise, if you had an interchange in West End, wouldn't that encourage people in the western suburbs to  exit out of the tunnel, clog Montague rd and Boundary street to drive to jobs in South Brisbane?

How would you mitigate these impacts Verbatim9?
