GERMANY: Vossloh has won a €75m contract to supply Karlsruhe transport operators VBK and AVG with 25 Citylink NET 2012 tram-train vehicles from October 2013.

The deal signed on October 25 includes an option for up to 50 more of the low-floor cars. They are to be supplied through a partnership between Vossloh Rail Vehicles in Valencia and electrical equipment supplier Vossloh Kiepe in Düsseldorf.

The three-section steel-bodied tram-trains will incorporate extensive crashworthiness design elements and provision for regenerative braking. Top speed will be 80 km/h, with the four bogies having pneumatic secondary suspension. The air-conditioned interior will have 104 seats cantilevered from the sides for easy cleaning.

  • Frankfurt operator VGF has ordered a further 10 Type S low-floor trams from Bombardier; six of these are an option on a previous order.

Out of curiosity could it be an option to maybe make the flagstone line light rail? use these from flagstone and then break off onto the road system to stop an overload on the beenleigh line?,
"Where else but Queensland?"
