Warrigal Road Bus Corridor

I grew up nearby to Warrigal Farms and we always knew it was just a matter of time before it was developed. Many comments on the Facebook post noting the potential for increased traffic now that it's finally happening. Knowing what the AM peak is like on Warrigal Road as it is, I won't be surprised if this makes it almost unbearable.

So it got me thinking. What would you do (medium-long term) to improve the bus corridor along Warrigal road? I used to catch the 150/156 along there and it's a massively popular route along Warrigal Road. Buses are frequently full before getting to Garden City.

For those wondering about Fruitgrove: The 150/156 seems to be much more popular to commute to the city from Warrigal Road compared to Fruitgrove as it's arguably faster in some cases due to the more direct route.

Is it worth some sort of bus upgrade along Warrigal Road? I don't think anything can be done in the short term but I feel like it needs something in the medium-long term. It's a very narrow road for buslanes but it could do it in some places by removing onstreet parking with perhaps some partial resumptions

I think the best thing for that corridor is to get rid of the level crossing to help improve reliability.

This is probably the easiest way to do it IMO.

You'd have to resume 30 & 32 Victor St.

5, 11 and 17 warrigal Rd might need to go as well since they would lose access.

Nectarine St would become a cul de sac.

Warrigal Road was planned as a bus priority corridor but does not have the width for 2 general traffic lanes and two bus lanes.

The level crossing absolutely has to go. That design is awesome too. Inbound buses would have to turn right off Beenleigh road to get onto Warrigal; would you have some sort of bus jump lane at the intersection to ensure reliability there?

Yeah that was my thought. As great as the level crossing removal is it's not going to solve the congestion further up the road. What's the solution here then, road widening???  :yikes:

The central link near the school is very tight.

The Warrigal Road Green Link actually made it into the Austroads research report on prioritising on-road public transport (2017).

The Warrigal Road green link honestly made SUCH a difference. I would have begged to have that while I was at school.

It's a shame that the stop outside the townhouses on Padstow road is stranded but that stretch of road is a nightmare in AM peak anyway so it's not a huge loss.

Agree that the section near Warrigal road state school is very narrow. Funnily enough it's also the worst bit for traffic. Aside from resumptions or expensive tunneling (northern busway style) I can't see an easy way to get buses through there quicker.
