Personally I'd like to see this route scrapped, it's serviced by the Cityglider and 199 (and Saturday 192s) so I don't see the point of it existing but to make go-card illiterate pensioners happy. Thoughts?

EDIT: Changed title to make it a broader topic

Correct me if I have this wrong, but wasn't the 191 a Saturday only bus?  It was to provide a link from the ferry terminal to the markets, when the 192 did not operate.  If that is the case and now that the 192 is operating on weekends probably no longer needed as such.

Most remarkable bus route. Total time 8 minutes.

TransLink information states that the 'PLEASE NOTE: Route 192 does NOT operate on Saturday, Sunday or Public Holidays.'

Maybe a question for TL. Does the 191 still run? Theres an updated timetable available for the 192 (http://translink.com.au/resources/travel-information/services-and-timetables/timetables/110221_192.pdf) which has extra runs and all that courtesy of the floods, and with Cityglider there really is no need for the 191.

Seems that 192 timetable has been superseded, and given its own PDF, but the 191 PDF wasn't updated.  Doh!

192 runs on weekends only UQ-West End Ferry.  Due to the destroyed wharf, I presume.

I hope they retain that Saturday 192. Each time I have been on it it's got quite good loads.

EDIT:
While I am at it I may well post my opinions for the other routes.
I think Cityglider was just a political tool by Newman and quite overhyped, when you've got Cityglider and 192 going to the same part of West End, something has to give. So replace Cityglider with 192, which should be BUZ'd and extended down the previous CityGlider route to Newstead and perhaps to Hamilton?  :conf might make the route too long. Keep 192 segment to UQ Lakes.

Alternatively if a BUZ192 isn't needed/Cityglider should be kept, then reintroduce route 197 as a peak only route of some sorts to go UQ - City via 196 route along Gladstone Rd but then express West End as it could go via Cordelia St/Merivale St then into Melbourne St. Once in the city, perhaps it could go via KGS and Roma St and provide the first service from KGS/Roma St to UQ? This route should be a uni semester only one though.

I agree with sentiments expressed in other threads about extending the 196 to Yeronga, I think that's a good idea. I went to Yeronga State School and the buses to that area were ridiculous, you couldn't get to Fairfield Gardens shopping centre (like 5mins by bus max) easily at all. There was no direct link to the (then) 191 and 193 routes.

I don't think it is a good idea to send 196 to UQ and install a turn right lane at the corner of Annerley Rds/Gladstone Rd into the busway for various reasons:
1. Such a right hand turn would hold up I/B traffic and the current route the 192 uses via Rusk St is sufficient imho.
2. During the uni holidays a BUZ would be overkill in service
3. Fairfield Gardens is an important shopping destination for people along the 196 route and people do use it to get to Fairfield
4. The 196 isn't a uni service and by pushing it to UQ you'd see services being full of uni students during uni peak and being too full to let the general public on in it's normal route as being a fast alternative to the 109, you'll see people flock to it. Not saying that extra services to UQ are a bad idea though but the 109 should be addressed rather than extending the 196.

As for route 198, I think it services an important role in connecting Highgate Hill and West End to Mater and PA Hospitals. I've used it a few times to get to Woolloongabba busway to get a bus to the eastern suburbs as it saves going via zone 1 and if you time it right and plan ahead, you get there reasonably quickly.
Does it still do that random sunday extension to a carpark at South Bank via Melbourne St I think? I haven't used the 198 in ages (last time was end last year).

Just my $0.02 feel free to critique. :)

Interesting idea with the 192/CityGlider. I like it. Doubt it'll go ahead, but I like it. It'd certainly get patronage on the weekends when all the other UQ Lakes buses stop at 6/7pm.

I think your summary about changing the terminus of the 196 sums up why I was a bit hesitant about that idea.

Had another thought bubble today (I know I discuss these routes A LOT..!)
My ideas are:
- scrap the 191 (it doesn't seem to be on Translink's website so might have already been scrapped)
- truncate the 192 at W. End ferry
- re-extend the 195, express Melbourne St, running through Boundary St down to the river, then onto Glenfield and Hoogley Sts to the ferry.
- keep 196 as it is
- abolish route 198
- re-route 199 by going via Mollison St & Banks St to Hardgrave Rd OR via Jane St and Boundary St (avoiding Vulture St) (I'm a but iffy on this one, but I don't want to cause over-servicing of Boundary St). Also, remove the Grey St/Morry St loop as buses can now turn around at the ferry using the roundabout.
- re-route CityGlider through Boundary St, Vulture St, Montague Rd then to the ferry.

Only issue is by moving CityGlider, the area it used to service through Montague Rd now has no buses, though by re-routing the 199 via Banks St this provides some service to this area and Mollison St.

199 is removed from the Central area of West End?  Well still touching the end of it, I guess.

If you are going to do something this radical, why stick with the enormous gap between the 199 and 196 off peak? Or do you mean the 195 to go full time?

I was thinking CityGlider should serve that inner Boundary St strip as it runs 24/7 Saturday/Sunday and avoiding it seems like a waste.
Not sure about 195, I think a full time service down Boundary St IS needed, especially since there's no bus past Vulture St. I am reluctant to re-route the 199 completely down this street as it removes the buses away from Hardgrave Rd AND would be complete overkill.
