SEQ: Paint bucket and signs could relieve Western Suburb Transport woes overnight!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers welcomes the recent media discussion about potential election policies for the next Brisbane City Council elections.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Any public transport policy for the next Brisbane City Council must intervene in the transport crisis and transport planning insanity that is the Western Suburbs (1). There are only two main routes into the CBD from the Western Suburbs, these being (i) Coronation Drive, (ii) Milton Road. Although this gives Public Transport a natural advantage in this corridor (2), this opportunity is being wasted."

"The reality is that for the cost of buckets of road paint and signs, much of the headache that is Coronation Drive could be relieved overnight by re-introducing T2 lanes to Coronation Drive. RAIL Back on Track calls on all prospective Lord Mayoral candidates to commit to returning T2 lanes to Coronation Drive as part of their core transport policy, and a committment to more bus priority on the rest of the road network."

"Fixing public transport does not necessarily need to cost billions of dollars, require endless mountains of studies and feasibility investigations, or decades of waiting for 'big ticket' infrastructure to fix. With some insight the problems we face can be tackled NOW."

"The public is losing patience with failures to implement cheap, practical & obvious solutions."
