I think questions should have been asked about the effectiveness of route 88.  And can the graph on page 5 of thedbo10-themeA-Warren paper for 444 vs other 4xx routes be updated to current.  And produce a similar graph for 111 vs 160,

Bligh Government loses 16 car parks

The Bligh Labor Government has lost 16 taxpayer funded car parks, a damning audit obtained by the State Opposition reveals.

The internal audit, tabled by Shadow Transport Minister Scott Emerson during Budget Estimates Hearings today, shows the Transport Department pays $2.6 million a year for 505 car parks in the Brisbane CBD and Fortitude Valley.

However, a car park 'stock take' could only account for 489 bays.

Mr Emerson demanded to know what happened to the other 16 spaces, how much the lost car parks had cost taxpayers and how long they had been missing.

"How can this Labor Government lose car park spaces? This is just more waste and more bungling from a tired, 20 year old Labor Government that can't get the basics right."

The internal audit also revealed car park passes for a Government building had been issued to nameless staff, staff who no longer for the Department and staff who didn't work in the building.

In addition, poor recordkeeping meant the Transport Department was paying almost $80,000 more in fringe benefits tax for car parking.

Mr Emerson said the damning internal audit showed the Bligh Labor Government's transport troubles were far from over.

"The Bligh Labor Government is wasting taxpayers' money at every turn, whether it be multi-million dollar budget blowouts for the new drivers' licence, or tens of thousands of dollars in fringe benefits tax for car parks that they didn't need to pay," he said.

"Is it any wonder the Bligh Labor Government can't pay its health workers properly or deliver a new driver's licence they've been promising for nearly a decade when they can't even find all the car parks taxpayers pay for?

"Unlike Labor, the LNP will save you money and deliver more by getting action on the basics and cutting waste."

A bit late, but I think a question should have been asked about the bus passenger-km versus total bus-km, and how this compares to national and international standards.

Well next time, I am quite sure that the LNP will be overjoyed to release those figures as they would reflect on the actions of the previous administration.
