Public comment sought for Bromelton State Development Area

The Newman Government wants community feedback on the draft development scheme for the Bromelton State Development Area (BSDA).

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jeff Seeney, said the draft development scheme outlined the vision for the area and identified preferred future land uses.

The BSDA will accommodate industrial activities of regional, state and national significance, maximising the use of the area's existing standard gauge rail.

The rail connects Bromelton to the Port of Brisbane, to other parts of Queensland, and to other States.

Mr Seeney said residents and interested people in the area were being given an opportunity to provide feedback.

"The Bromelton State Development Area is approximately 15,000 hectares in area and includes approximately 2,700 hectares proposed for industry. This area of land will provide development potential for industrial uses until about 2031."

Th e Queensland Coordinator-General Barry Broeis is required to assess land use proposals in the Bromelton State Development Area.

Mr Seeney said the State Government, Scenic Rim Regional Council, and major property owners have worked together over the past few years to prepare a plan for the overall State Development Area.

"The proposed development scheme is the result of the collaborative approach to planning," he said.

"I would like to thank the Scenic Rim Regional Council and major property owners for their contribution in planning for Bromelton.

"The Beaudesert community is invited to discuss the draft development scheme with officers from the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning."

Information sessions will held be at The Centre, 82 Brisbane Street, Beaudesert on:
• Thursday 26 July 2012 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm; and
• Saturday 28 July 2012 from 10:00am to 12:30pm.

All submissions rece ved by the 9 August 2012 will be reviewed and considered, before the document is finalised at the end of the year.

The third rail runs from the southern home signal at Acacia Ridge south to Bromelton, as you can see the third rail is not secured only positioned with clips on about one sleeper in 30 or so, the dual gauge points are not in place as yet as the pics at Greenbank shows.

When I was down that way the weekend before last, the situation had not changed materially since Mufreight took those shots in 2010.

The dual gauge project remains stalled where it was when ARTC & the Federal Government lost interest / used up the budget / milked the value from the positive press releases (take your pick).

The 3rd rail sits there rusty and unlikely to see use. The dual gauge turnouts that have been sitting by the line at Greenbank for over 2 years are now hosting quite a significant growth of small saplings, etc.

This project is a disgraceful waste of money that appears to have been half built and then abandoned for no good reason.

A new bypass and more jobs for Beaudesert

Beaudesert businesses and families are set to benefit from Queensland Government funding for a new bypass that will create jobs and rejuvenate the town centre.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney announced in Parliament today that the State Government had identified the first three projects to be funded under its Priority Development Infrastructure program.

"We promised at the election to provide better infrastructure and planning in regional Queensland to help build thriving communities where people want to live and work – and that's what we are delivering," Mr Seeney said.

"Our Priority Development Infrastructure (PDI) Co-investment Program will see the State Government co-invest in start-up projects such as road, water supply, sewerage and stormwater infrastructure that will enable councils to attract investment to get associated developments off the ground.

"We recognised we needed to work with councils and the private sector to get projects moving – projects to provide the catalytic infrastructure that would support development and create jobs.

"In the Beaudesert region we will partner with Scenic Rim Regional Council, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Mirvac and Eureka Funds Management to fund the Beaudesert Town Bypass.

"We believe that this investment will be the catalyst for the development of the Bromelton Industrial Estate – a major transport and logistics hub – and will also support future redevelopment of the Beaudesert CBD."

The Beaudesert Town Bypass is a key project in the ongoing development of the 15,000 hectare Bromelton State Development Area, about six kilometres west of the Beaudesert township.

Member for Beaudesert Jon Krause welcomed today's commitment from the Deputy Premier.

"This project has been talked about for 30 to 40 years and it's taken the Queensland LNP government to deliver this historic decision for Beaudesert," Mr Krause said.

"I'm very excited about what the bypass will mean for the development of Beaudesert town, as it gets heavy vehicles out of the main street and will encourage a far more visitor-friendly precinct for locals and visitors to the town.

"The project will also boost development in the Bromelton State Development Area and other areas around Beaudesert, attracting businesses and jobs to the region."

Scenic Rim Mayor John Brent said the bypass would herald a new era of economic growth for Beaudesert.

"This is without doubt the beginning of a new era of economic growth and an historic day for Beaudesert and the Scenic Rim," Cr Brent said.

"The bypass will enhance road safety, service the growing freight demands of the region and will allow council to progress the revitalisation of the Beaudesert town centre.

"I thank the State Government, particularly the Premier and Deputy Premier, for not only today's commitment but also their continuing support for the growth and development of the Scenic Rim."

Mr Seeney said that over the past few months Economic Development Queensland had been working with councils to identify projects in their regions that will deliver significant flow-on benefits for the community.

"By supporting Priority Development Infrastructure projects in places like Beaudesert, we are giving local governments and the private sector the confidence to invest in infrastructure that will grow regional economies," Mr Seeney said.

"The co-investments we are making will be recovered from these new developments and will, in turn, be rolled into future catalytic infrastructure projects that will provide jobs, business opportunities across Queensland."

So is ARTC going to pull their finger out and complete the dual gauge conversion? The "3'6" to Bromelton" project remains incomplete some 4 years after Albanese milked it for some feel good press releases.

As of my last XPT trip, a couple of months ago, the dual gauge turnouts at Greenbank remain unfitted, and are still sitting by the line and hosting an amazing array of weeds.

What on earth was the point of bunging in 3rd rail if its just going to sit there for years degrading?

The signalling is NSW single light colour light from around Paradise Rd south isn't it? 

Knowing our luck they will finish the work and it will take 2 years to qualify anybody on the safeworking system.

Changeover to NSW safe-working is southern yard limit Acacia Ridge AFAIK, so would be Paradise Rd area.

Well yes - and on that basis the project shouldn't have even started yet if its not going to be used. But what has happened here is something like 80% of the work completed, then once "team red" sort of won the 2010 election, the whole thing stopped.

And those expensive and complex dual gauge points are already delivered, and are sitting unmaintained as slowly decaying weed gardens next to the line.

Utterly wasteful.  Our tax dollars at work - infrastructure as a political plaything.

Good that its finally starting construction.    Just hope they won't cheap out and limit the site to bulk and containerised items only.  I also hope they don't cheap out and build it to only support 1500m trains.

This should the warning and catalyst for the government (federal/state, IDK who decides for the interstate line)  to get off their arse and duplicate and properly upgrade the existing interstate line between Acacia ridge and bromelton.    Perfect for a stage 1 of the beaudesert line construction as well.  most of it will be just sticking a track next to the current one, with only minor realignments for speed increases and these being more for future passenger services.
