The Queensland Maritime Museum will gain some nautical reinforcements next week when a flood-ravaged ferry stop reopens.

The South Bank River Plaza CityFerry terminal will be renamed after the Maritime Museum in a move Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said would help put one of Brisbane's top tourist attractions back on the map.

Repairs to the Maritime Museum ferry terminal cost $180,000 and include repairing the pontoon and the gangway to build an interim terminal for the city's single hull ferry fleet.

A new permanent terminal at Maritime Museum will be built in about two years.

The museum is immediately adjacent to South Bank, just downstream from the parklands.

"Council has been working tirelessly to restore the CityCat and CityFerry network and the reopening of the final ferry terminal reaffirms our commitment to getting Brisbane back in business," Cr Quirk said.

"We listened to the local community and ensured that the River Plaza ferry terminal would be back on line as quickly as possible."

Also reopening on Monday will be West End's Orleigh Street CityCat ferry terminal, which has just gone through a $5 million refit.

Both were devastated during Brisbane's January floods.

It marks the full restoration of Brisbane's CityCat and CityFerry network, 6½ months after the January flood.

Downstream ferries from the main South Bank terminal will depart two minutes earlier to take in the newly opened Maritime Museum ferry stop.

During the January floods, eight of Brisbane's ferry terminals were completely destroyed among a total of 23 damaged terminals.

Fifteen terminals required minor works and were re-opened in February, temporary facilities have been built at the University of Queensland, the Regatta Hotel, North Quay, QUT Gardens Point, Holman Street and Sydney Street at New Farm.

I doubt changing the name of the terminal is going to trick anybody.

If it nets them an extra passenger per trip (100% increase), then wunderbar.
