The dual-berth CityCat terminal which will replace the Teneriffe ferry terminal.

Contributions from developers will pay for one-third of the new $5 million Teneriffe CityCat terminal, which should be in operation by the end of the year.

Also due to be in operation in time for the terminal's opening were two new CityCats, Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said today.

The dual-berth CityCat terminal will replace the Teneriffe ferry terminal at the end of Commercial Road and links with the nearby bus terminal, carrying the CityGlider and 199 BUZ bus services.

The new CityCats will mean extra express services into the city in the morning peak hour, while the new Teneriffe terminal includes lights powered by solar panels on the roof.

Cr Quirk said the new terminal would be one-third paid for by the private sector.

"It's a $5 million project, with one third of that coming from the private sector through local infrastructure charges," he said.

Piles have been driven into the river off the end of Commercial Road to support the new terminal.

It will include a waiting area for 50 people, a Go Card top-up machine and will use recycled timber, water through a rainwater tank and use solar panels for lights.

Along with the dual-berth CityCat pontoon, the facility will provide two off-peak and overnight moorings and wider gangways to provide disability access.

Brisbane's 18th CityCat expected to enter into service within a month.

Cr Quirk said the 19th CityCat would also be in operation before Christmas.

He said work was still on schedule to finish the West End CityCat terminal, badly damaged during the January floods, this month.

Cr Quirk declined to say if Brisbane's newest CityCat would be added to the fleet when the West End CityCat terminal was re-opened.

"That would be a high assumption and we will just have to wait and see," he said.

A council spokeswoman said the new terminal stop would either fall between Bretts Wharf and Bulimba, or Bulimba and Hawthorne.

A decision will be made after negotiations with TransLink, she said.
