Trees crash on Blue Mountains trains as NSW faces wild weather

A MAN has been injured after trees fell on to two passenger trains in separate incidents in the NSW Blue Mountains.
A westbound CityRail train was almost at Medlow Bath station at 8pm (AEST) today when a tree fell on the first carriage, police said.
One man suffered minor cuts in the incident and was taken to Katoomba Hospital for treatment.
The other passengers were removed from the train and carried on their journey by bus.
Half an hour earlier a tree fell on to an eastbound Country Link train travelling between Blackheath and Medlow Bath.
No one was injured in that incident.
Alternative transport is being arranged for the passengers of the CountryLink train.
CityRail has suspended trains in both directions on the Blue Mountains line between Lawson and Lithgow, with repair crews on site assessing the damage to overhead wiring.

A limited bus service is in place and there is no indication of when the line will be reopened.
Strong winds have caused havoc throughout the Blue Mountains, with power cut to thousands of homes.
The Great Western Highway is closed at Railway Parade at Katoomba and Medlow Bath.

Current at 12.02AM, 06 July 2011 - Blue Mountains Line  - Major delays

CityRail advises that trains have been suspended on the Blue Mountains Line between Lawson and Lithgow in both directions due to strong winds causing a fallen tree to damage the overhead wiring at Blackheath. Major delays can be expected. A limited replacement bus service has been arranged between Lawson and Lithgow in both directions. CityRail recommends travellers make alternative travelling arrangements where possible in this area. Repair crews are on site and are assessing damage to rail infrastructure. At this stage there is no forecast of when the line can be reopened. CityRail is endeavouring to get rail travellers to their destinations as soon as possible. Buses will replace trains between Lithgow and Katoomba in both directions on Wednesday 6th of July. Train services will operate between Katoomba and Central in both directions. Customers travelling to the City are encouraged where possible to utilise stations between Katoomba and Springwood to minimise inconvenience.

Passengers injured ... a tree causes huge damage to a train at Medlow Bath, in the
Blue Mountains, last night. Three people needed to be treated at the scene.

SYDNEYSIDERS are preparing for more extreme weather after 33,000 people were left without power and three people were injured when two trains were hit by falling trees last night.

Gales of up to 140km/h brought down trees, power lines and traffic lights, caused commuter chaos and delayed domestic arrivals at Sydney Airport.

At Medlow Bath in the Blue Mountains, paramedics were called to treat three people when a train reportedly carrying 20 passengers had its front carriage crushed by a falling tree.
