Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says she faces a tough fight to win the next election, with a new poll confirming LNP leader Campbell Newman is on track to take office.

The former Brisbane lord mayor needs to win the Labor-held seat of Ashgrove as well as the state-wide vote if he is to become Premier.

The first Newspoll in Ashgrove, published today in the Weekend Australian, shows Mr Newman has a 10-point lead after preferences over incumbent member Kate Jones.

The LNP has an even greater lead in state-wide polls.

"I'm going to fight very hard in this election campaign - I take nothing for granted," Mr Newman said.

Ms Bligh says the battle for Ashgrove and the rest of the state will be fiercely fought.

"We've always known that this was going to be a hard fought campaign but I'm looking forward to it,"

"The job for me and my team over the coming months is to make sure that Queenslanders understand the risk that Campbell Newman and his team would be for our state at this time."

The poll results were music to the ears of LNP members gathered for their annual state convention, as was federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott's address on the carbon tax.

"The Australian people are not stupid and they know a bad deal when they see it," he said to applause.

Mr Abbott told the party faithful that the tax will put the state's economy at risk, particularly in the mining and tourism sectors.

"They are asking us to do all this in a campaign to save the planet; when you actually look at the government's own figures, our emissions increase," he said.

Mr Newman will address the conference tomorrow.

Well, the choice is effectively:

- ALP - more of same
- LNP - pig in a poke
- others - no effective representation or chance of forming government

Bit annoying really, isn't it?

Hahaha, its only been the last few years that labor gave a f""" about any form of infrastructure, did they even bother to read the ICRCS which states that there should have been a lot of capacity completed last year. give me a break labor is over and they know it, people are that annoyed about the carbon tax that the LNP doesn't even need policy to win, not to mention the asset sell off.
"Where else but Queensland?"
