Go card advertising

Everywhere I look lately, web, press and so forth I see go card advertising.  Is this really necessary?  Like we don't have a choice at all, and I would prefer our hard earned be spent on services or something a bit more tangible like hoods on exposed go card readers.  Seems to me some real issues are still out there ...

I too have noticed that Bob, what an appalling waste of money.
It's just gone overboard.

If one was cynical one could see it as a carrot to limit adverse media exposure ?

Might be, there is a fair amount of seething discontent out there in go card land judging by some of the feedback and maybe it is a counter to the feedback they must be receiving as well.  The appropriate response in my view is to sort out the issues, rather than paying for advertising.

I quiet like ;) that that big GoCard billboard on the wall downstairs at the platforms at central (Opp plat 1 iirc), nothing like seeing the discount benefits when you are inside a gated station.

I know it isn't popular here, but I am still hearing discontent over the 6 and 12 month tickets situation.

Its the same as advertising petrol, totally unnecessary. On another note could translink be sued over misrepresentation of product with its fantasy go card readers?
"Where else but Queensland?"

I like the elephant one, a card that never forgets... unless you touch on within 3 months, or your credit goes some funny place and you get a red beep (or you used to... actually I think someone said its now 6months, but still, you get my drift).

Oh, and I don't think it actually costs them that much, I'd be surprised if JCDecaux didn't give them free space.

I would like the adverts to be more educational though, it would be nice to have ones that actually explained what go card was, for tourists and the as yet unconverted, rather than these obscure ads.

Look forward to more of this government advertising.  In the lead-up to an election, a government has its departments and corporations roll out a series of advertising campaigns and pages and electronic media slots are bought/booked for that purpose.  All available slots are bought up for government advertising.

Then, hey presto, the advertising stops, the government announces an election and the slots are re-assigned to the party holding government.  Where does that leave the LNP?  Well, if you are able to stay up until 2am to watch those shows about fat-burning devices and kitchen gadgets -- that's where the LNP ads go.

Are you kidding me? That's bulldust, both parties advertise as much as one another. Brisbane is dead during school holidays so I would bet money much of this current advertising is "contra", that is, received for free from the advertising company given TL gives them the rights to advertise in their infrastructure. Contra is either used when it is available or it isn't, if it isn't used, it is 'spent' anyway. Might as well use it.
