In explanation of these possible track and platform arrangements the following are simplified diagrams of possible track layouts and platform arangements for four tracks between Corinda, Oxley and Darra which would represent a considerable saving in construction costs and hold significant operational advantages over the originally proposed layouts for the three track Corinda - Darra proposal.

They require no additional bridge work in the Corrinda - Darra section and in fact requires one less rail over road crossing at Darra, a further saving.

There remains no need for either a fifth platform face at Darra or an additional platform at Oxley as the third track is in essence being built for through workings which would not be stopping at that station.

The money saved by not building these platforms and the somewhat complex and unneeded track arangements proposed for Darra and the junction beyond Darra for the Springfield line.

Further savings would be made by removing the need for bi-directional signaling between Corinda and Darra.

The arrangements proposed for the junction point provide for an intrim turnback facility that enables the reversal of trains at Darra without blocking the Ipswich line and also provides for the immediat construction of a bi-directional third track to the west of Darra that could be quite easily accomodate a fourth track to the west without any track rearangements other than the provision of one additional turnout or alternatively the removal of one and its relocation to the end of the fourth track.

Got to agree about Darra, not sure why the 5th platform is really needed at all, even with Springfield full belt.  The two island platforms (4 faces) would be more than enough.

The extra platform at Oxley will be useful at times, peak and when maintenance and that too, builds some redundancy particularly as Oxley will be ramped up as a bus interchange.  If funding was critical it could be dispensed with but so goes flexibility.
