I will be at Roma St Platform 7 at around 9am I expect.  Will be heading off early from Goodna, and will track out to Richlands, back to Darra, and then into town.  Should have time for breakfast at Roma St.

I will be busy/working Monday morning, but put me down for a maybe for joining the party on the return journey at Landsborough to as far as Caboolture.

Which carriage will you folks be in for the return trip?

Isn't that the quiet car.

I won't be making it.  Best would be to say hi at Roma St.

ozbob

If was a six car set it would be, in that case probably second car.   Quiet carriages has not been defined for a 4 car train, although logic would be the last carriage as for three cars.

The old (now defunct) 3:53pm Caboolture-Nambour 4-car ICE shuttle service (whenever the ICE is available) usually had the first and last carriages of the train designated as the "Quiet" carriages.

Well to cut a long story short, and hopefully avoiding another multi-page thread on 'quiet carriages' lets say second car Arnz  ...   :D

Sorry guys, I won't be able to make it either. Exams are nearly upon me and I need to study. I may be able to swing through Roma St in the morning though, but I guarantee nothing. I will hopefully be catching the 7.06am from Ferny Grove and have a few errands to run in the city before heading over to UQ. If I don't see you, enjoy.

Did that train start late from FG this am? BrizCommuter was non-impressed by the 5 min delay.

The first day train to Gympie North was on time arrival at Gympie North and back at Roma St, 2 minutes late.

Very impressive run down and up.    The train was welcomed north of Cooroy by groups of local citizens, they really appreciate this service  :D  Wonderful to see the welcomes!!

Media at Gympie North rail as well!  Very glad for the support of those who travelled and those who couldn't because of work and other commitments.  Special thanks to member Stillwater for organising the light refreshments for the group at Gympie North, thank you!  Thanks to the friendly Queensland Rail train crew and station staff as well.

Very enjoyable day all round.  Topped off by a nice express run from Roma St to Darra on the new Ipswich express on the way back home to Goodna.  Interesting to note the Richlands service a couple of minutes ahead of the Ippy from Roma St was very well loaded, the Ipswich train was comfortable for a change.

How about the 'Gympie gander'.
There's plenty of time for a look-see on the way.  :)

I have one...The Gunzel Galloper, because in addition to it being used by Gympie locals, it will finally mean those bloody railfans can take a practical day trip to Gympie North.

I don't think it did. I wasn't paying too much attention to be honest, we did leave fairly soon after the train that would for the 7.15 service arrived at the 2nd platform.

I'd be in that if I had sufficient notice to organise a day's leave.  Would have gone today but had a meeting I couldn't get out of.

I regret not having done the Robina to Gympie North service that existed in a previous version of the timetable.  At the time it was Australia's longest scheduled electric commuter service.

Midday rail service starts

QuoteMidday rail service starts

6th June 2011

IT'S taken a petition and numerous letters to various ministers and Queensland Rail but all the lobbying on the community's behalf has paid off for Member for Gympie David Gibson with the start of the new Citytrain midday rail service today.

Mr Gibson is a frequent user of the rail service from Gympie North and has been campaigning for an additional rail service since being elected in 2006.

"Today is a great day for local residents with the commencement of this midday rail service," Mr Gibson said as he waited for the train to arrive.

"In the past you would catch the 6am train in the morning and couldn't return until 8.40pm at night, a whole 14 hours and 40 minutes later, which wasn't very appealing.

"This new midday service means that residents will be able to catch the train to attend a medical appointment at Nambour in the morning and be back by 12.40pm.

"I'm confident that this new service will open up so many more possibilities for increased use of public transport in the region."

From yesterday, the new TRANSLink 2011 timetable has an extra train arriving at Gympie at 12.39pm Monday to Friday and leaving at 1.20pm.

"I want to thank the current Transport Minister for actually listening to the community with the provision of this additional service," Mr Gibson said.

"It shows what can be done when governments actually listen to the people."

Mr Gibson is encouraging people to use the new service as one way to get cars off the dangerous Bruce Highway.

"Anything that can help take just one more car off the most dangerous section of the Bruce Highway is worth using.

"Now that we have a midday service I'm hoping that the public will support it so that we can see more services coming to Gympie," he said.

Sorry, I was wrong. Something jogged my memory yesterday and we did sit at Grovely for a few minutes with no real explanation. Shouldn't have been a red signal seeing as theres 21 minutes between it and the preceding service.

I wouldn't be surprised, I've had that in the same spot.
