SEQ: Timetable changes a win for Gympie North rail

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has previously highlighted the new public transport timetables that come into effect on Monday 6th June (1).

The former weekday service to Cooroy has now been extended to Gympie North.  Interurban rail services in south east Queensland are another potential service improvement for the longer term.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The regional rail interurban services in Victoria under the V/Line banner are booming with an 89% patronage gain over the last five years. Fast, frequent, affordable long distance rail services have become a preferred method of travel in the state, free from the constant danger of road trauma, congestion and chaos (2)."

"A significant gain for the Sunshine Coast is the introduction of an additional weekday return service to Gympie North as from the 6th June."

The timetable is:

9:33 am Platform 7 Roma St

10.21am Caboolture

10.54am Landsborough

11.30am Nambour

11.57am Cooroy

12.39pm Gympie North

=============

Depart Gympie North 1.20pm

Cooroy 2.03pm

Nambour 2.25pm

Landsborough 2.57pm

Caboolture 3.33pm

Roma St 4.21pm

=============

"This means that Gympie North will now have two daily return services to and from Brisbane.  A 100% gain in frequency!"

"This additional service is very welcome and will provide an important communication link and travel option for local citizens as well as of considerable benefit to the tourist sector.  More services are needed between Gympie North and Nambour particularly, but this is a welcome beginning."

"More interurban services are needed generally in south east Queensland.  Electrification of the railway to Gatton should also be a priority, and regular interurban rail services introduced with a coordinated rail bus service to and from Toowoomba."

"RAIL Back On Track members will be travelling to Gympie North on the inaugural day service to celebrate this significant gain! (3)"

"Ease the strain, travel by train!"

Re: 5 Jun 2011: SEQ: Timetable changes a win for Gympie North rail

Greetings,

The first day train to Gympie North was on time arrival at Gympie North and back at Roma St, 2 minutes late.

Very impressive run down and up.    The train was welcomed north of Cooroy by groups of local citizens, they really appreciate this service   :D  Wonderful to see the welcomes!!

Photographs of the welcomes --> http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=5795.msg58963#msg58963

Media at Gympie North rail as well!  Very glad for the support of those who travelled and those who couldn't because of work and other commitments.  Special thanks to member Stillwater for organising the light refreshments for the group at Gympie North, thank you!  Thanks to the friendly Queensland Rail train crew and station staff as well.

Very enjoyable day all round.  Topped off by a nice express run from Roma St to Darra on the new Ipswich express on the way back home to Goodna.  Interesting to note the Richlands service a couple of minutes ahead of the Ippy from Roma St was very well loaded, the Ipswich train was comfortable for a change.

Best wishes
Robert
