MORE than half a million trips were made by public transport in Melbourne last year.

New figures released yesterday by Metlink show that a record 227 million trips were made by train, up 6 per cent in a year, and 101 million on Melbourne's buses, up 1 per cent.

V/Line train use grew by 7.4 per cent, to 13 million trips.

But tram use dipped 1.5 per cent on the previous year to 176.5 million.

Fare evasion last year rose to 13 per cent, up from 9.3 per cent.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

V line is doing a roaring trade.

As for trams-- maybe the figure hasn't gone down; maybe the fare evasion has gone up since Myki and thus some people are not counted...
