Stupid substandard narrow gauges.

Brunel was right.

Bright back the 7 foot gauge.  :pr :pr

(For bonus points, in the 19th century there actually was a proposal for a 7 foot gauge line in Queensland.  What was that proposal?)

Sunshine Coast will take any gauge it can get ...
the cynic in me says it is an election year.

SteelPan nailed it!

One of the early proposals for a line to Redcliffe involved building a branch from the Sandgate railway to Redcliffe via Brighton, with a causeway crossing roughly where the Hornibrook Highway is.

There were concerns that a causeway crossing across open water might cause trains to be exposed to severe crosswinds, so doubling the QGR gauge of 3'6" to 7' gauge was proposed.

The scheme didn't get very far ...
