Of course, Beerburrum to Landsborough and Landsborough to Nambour will not be built in July 2011, so an additional factor for inflation would have to be calculated to the date when construction could occur, say 2013-14.  That would bring the total likely construction cost closer to $3 billion.  It would be interesting to get a recosting for CAMCOS also.

For every year Beerburrum-Landsborough duplication is not built, the taxpayer will pay an extra $63 million annually.  And the government has said it has postponed this work to 'save money'.  At the same time, the government says its objective is to provide fast express services from the Sunshine Coast, the trip taking 'about one hour'.  It has an objective, but not the will or means to make it happen.

Look at all those billions of dollars worth of projects in Connecting SEQ 2031 that the government says will be built by 2031, even though there is no plan for raising the money needed, and apply a 2.8 per cent compounded inflationary price creep over 20 years and you come to a staggering figure.  Despite having an uncosted transport plan with galloping price rises due to postponement of vital infrastructure, the government still wants us to believe everything is achievable.  The reason is that Bligh and Co. won't be around in 2031 to be accountable for non-performance.

Is it good enough to run a State on the principles of a wing and a prayer and 'she'll be right'?  It is lazy government, and some would say, irresponsible government.  I wonder how 'can do' Campbell would tackle the same issue?
