SEQ: Thanks Translink for the 192 bus improvements while the CityCat is out

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport passengers and an advocate for public transport wishes to thank TransLink for their quick decision to boost bus 192 West End (Coles) to UQ Lakes via Gladstone Road in preparation for the new University Semester (1).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The loss of the CityCat service for St Lucia, West End and UQ has meant people have had to travel into the CBD via Congestion Drive (Coronation Drive). The situation on Coronation Drive is terminal with buses routinely stuck for 15 minutes to an hour or more in class C (mixed traffic) right of way, which is the worst reliability and priority (2)."

"Fortunately, with new route 192 buses and extra services, people can now get a direct, single seat journey to West End, Highgate Hill and Dutton Park without having to travel into the CBD, and for the first time hourly weekend services will also be added. This is a very welcome move and we thank TransLink for acting quickly."

"With regards to Congestion Drive (Coronation Drive), proper utilisation of the existing 'busway on steel wheels' that is the Ipswich rail line and a 'think bus, fill train' approach will give people the option to transfer out of gridlock. After all, it  takes less than 15 minutes by train to travel from Indooroopilly to the CBD (3,4)."

More 192 services from West End to UQ Lakes

From Monday 21 February, TransLink is increasing the number of 192 services for passengers affected by the loss of the West End to UQ CityCat service.

There will be an additional 75 services Monday to Friday, and 48 route 192 services will operate on weekends for the first time. The additional 192 services will operate only from the Mollison Street Coles via West End to UQ Lakes and connect with the CityGlider services.

These additional services will also replace the Saturday-only route 191 which operates along the same route.

Remember, there is still plenty of capacity on other popular, high-frequency University of Queensland services from the city, such as the 109 and 412.
