GPS directions to public transport at your fingertips

If you're lost in the suburban maze and looking for a way out GPS tracking directions are as close as your mobile phone, Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk announced today.

Ms Palaszczuk said the next generation mobile website will include Journey Planner easy travel, featuring a GPS capability that allows customers to search for stops, go card retailers and journeys near their current location.

"This is expected to benefit thousands of customers a week who use devices like iPhone and Ipad to access public transport information," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"More than two-thirds of customers visit the TransLink website to plan their trip and the GPS function of Journey Planner easy travel will allow them to do that on the run without trying to find an address for their current location.

"The new mobile site still allows customers to search the nearby stops and stations, as well as access to timetables, event information, news, service status and feedback.

"We want to get more people using public transport.

"This latest initiative makes finding the closest station or bus stop much easier."

The new site will also include a My Links feature will allows customers to save and store links to their favourite and most visited TransLink pages, timetables, service updates, go card locations and journey planner searches.

"My Links will save customers a lot of time, by being able to access their regularly used services without having to re-navigate through the site," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Customers will be able to automatically access the TransLink mobile site by visiting www.translink.com.au on their mobile web-based phone, iPads or tablets.

Good. Maybe this can be implemented to make interchange and transfer between bus services in the suburbs much easier.

It would be hard to be worse than the present arrangements.
