Ummm, how is this showing QLD as behind the times?
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Wow, how much did that cost?
I like it, they probably don't have separate heavy rail do they?

Not a clue about all the artwork stuff, but as for the physical infrastructure, probably less than the way we contruct ours. From the looks of it all they've done is excavated the tunnel the same as us, but instead of shot-creting then putting solid concrete infront of it like we do (just think like the lining of the Clem 7 and stuff when they had pictures of putting it together) they just shotcreted and put the floor in, then painted over the top. I'm going to assume however that they would put extra reinforcing in the shotcreting stage as its the only structural reinforcement they provide.

Because a city with a Metro population roughly the same as Brisbane ( was building Metros back in the 1950s.

Now this is how you stop your trains getting graffitied....Looks fantastic!

Wikipedia broken?

Stockholm not only has the T-Bana (Metro), but also Suburban Trains (Pendletag), Light Rail, as well as your usual bus and ferry.

As for the design of the stations, when they had the CRR community sessions in the Queen Street Mall I suggested it would be nice if one of the stations was like the Stockholm metro, painted in an ochre colour so it would be like an outback cave.
I'm interested to know how much money is saved by doing stations in this manner. If its cheaper I'm all for it. I particularly like the contrasting effect, where you have the rough/irregular cave contrasting with the very precise/angular  looking ducts, lighting and escalators stuck onto it.

For the record, I was taking it purely at face value, as in we were behind the times because we don't have stations that look like that. Its all I had to go off from the pictures at the link.

I agree that having a station like that in Brisbane would be great, but it may not be possible unless where the station goes is all rock.

You know, if we had a tube in the river, do you think a section of the tunnel could be made clear? I guess there wouldn't be much to see... :is-

Are you kidding, the river crossing is to be below the river bed not a submerged tube and if it were to be a submerged tube I for one would not want to use it given the force of the flows in the river and in a flood situation the size and weight of some of the debri that gets carried downstream.

I did say, IF
and I am kidding!!!
