Are the "Redcliffe" (Heavy) and Gold Coast (Light) Rail Projects DEAD?

I see some "dispute" is brewing between the parties on the GC (a Qld Govt exit lane from the project??) and here's my call - the Feds and Qld Govts will pull the rug from under Kippa-Ring - before you tell me how crazzy I am - remember - a Gillard Govt will NEVER have a carbon tax!  The State and Feds are looking to kill projects everywhere!  I'm just saying - don't be suprised and don't put it beyond 'em.   :conf  :conf   :conf

Unless of course, you do blindly believe every "promise" pollies make!
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:

Understand the sentiment, but no, I don't think they are dead.  There are some contractual spits going on re GC Light Rail as I understand it, and MBRL is proceeding.

In any case, the perfect transport storm is looming. Gold Coast is already a major mess, and the rest of SEQ not far behind it.  They just don't get it I am afraid.  Until everything just locks up and fails, they will blunder on spinning and publishing glossy documents that mean little.

The opposition is off on another self-destruction mission, they could be challenging the present government on policy and like.  No, more silly games.  It does seem at times the only ones challenging flawed policy are the concerned 'apolitical' citizenry and the likes of ourselves.  The political process is failing badly.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Funding has been committed for kippa-ring though and can honestly beleive that there would be a worse reaction than the carbon tax, the winning tender for light rail is supposed to be announced by may and the station shell is already under construction at Griffith as are preliminary road works. PT wont get a proper overhaul until fuel hits $2 a litre, there will be a bunch of people from the outer suburbs in there stupid estates having a big cry that there was no investment in PT and they can afford to fill there cars up

I don't see Gillard's Carbon tax as a broken promise. I always saw an ETS as a key Labor plan, and the Carbon Tax is only a CT to begin with and will become and ETS after a few years. The only reason its starting with a fixed price is because of the deal Labor made with the Greens to hold a majority, and they want it rolled out sooner rather than later.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Whilst Redcliffe Peninsula isn't really "outer suburbs" any more since the 80s when they opened the Houghton bridge and now the duplication, you could still say that areas like Mango Hill and Rothwell are still outer-ish - in the sense that when petrol inevitably reaches $2.50 a litre then huge swathes of the working population in those areas are going to face the same transport costs that until recently were endured by people living, for example, Southern end of the Sunshine Coast. And a lot of Sunnies do drive in, still.

Then the push will be on I'm sure.

Dude, anywhere that is over a half hour drive from the CBD (without traffic) is definitely "outer suburbs". Redcliffe is further away than Ipswich! I would say the "outer suburbs" start well inside the BCC boundary. Anywhere in Translink zone 4 or higher is "outer suburbs". Jesus, I can't believe someone is trying to say Redcliffe isn't outer suburbs. You could build a bridge in a straight line between Redcliffe and the CBD and it would still be outer suburbs. I mean it isn't even a suburb of Brisbane!

Redcliffe I think will survive.

Not so sure about Gold Coast if the LNP get in.  Might get turned into bus plus a few dedicated stations salvaged from the early works.

I know that's what Alex Douglas, MP for Gaven wants.
