Card position when touching on and off

The instructions seem to suggest that as long as the card is brought to within 10cm of a touch device it will work.

I went back and reviewed the travelling with go videos ( http://www.translink.com.au/qt/transLin.nsf/Index/go_videos#c1 )

In each and every case the card is being held flat for touch on/off.
Maybe this is the best way?

I am going to try that.  I have been just touching the device at angle say 80 to 90 degrees.  This should work but maybe it is better flat.

If I can get the touch on and touch off working rapidly, I would be much happier, particularly when large numbers are using the card and there is people pressure behind you.

Anyone else got any comments on the card position?

Thanks.

I've always held my flat.  I think I saw them do it that way in the video.  As mentioned in another post, I used to wave the card around trying to get it to read, but I think it works best if you just hold it flat right next to the surface of the reader.

From what I've found "flat" is definitely best.   ie - parallel to the card reader.  I've also had more luck when I've held it "front in" (ie blue side to the reader) rather than the other way (white side to the reader).

I've also found it's a definite "place over reader and hold".  Waving around and trying to "wave it through" (like I do with my Cardax Proximity Cards at work) doesn't tend to work well.

I have only tried using it flat against the reader and it has worked every time.  Also I keep mine in its plastic wallet (issued with the Go card) when I tag on/off and the reader has had no problem reading it every time in less than a second flat.

Thanks for the comments.  Welcome SockGap!

QuoteGreetings,

Go Card - card position when touching

I have found that speed of touch on and touch off is greatly facilitated by presenting the Go card flat.

The go card movies do show this, but no where does it specifically mention that point.

Please refer to http://backontrack.org/mbs/index.php?topic=503.0  for more information.

I am concerned that when a large number of folks are queuing to touch, unless they are aware that card position does speed things up there might be delays.

It might be worthwhile highlighting this in the instructions.

Best wishes
Robert
