Split off from the main Cross River Rail thread here which is stage 1.

This thread for discussion for later possible projects other than stage 1.

If city stations would be $100 million, would the ones in the suburbs be much much cheaper than that?
(from stage 1 thread)

I would say yes they would be cheaper, but how much depends alot on how they are built. If they are still going to be underground then I would expect the price to still be high, although how high really depends on how deep you build them. You would still have to purchase some properties at the surface to give access during construction as well as the final surface access. Surface stations would be cheaper, although you would have to factor in social costs of cutting communities in half.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

It would be great for a TOD development above these stations. That would more than replace the dwellings lost on the surface (although the surface property required can be minimised too) and some of that TOD money can be used to reduce the cost of the project.

Underground is probably the best, it blocks the noise out and no level crossings. Because the 15 minutes or so saved would be so large, the amount of transfers that would happen (if it were not heavy rail) there would have to be legions and legions of buses to pick these people up, flooding local streets of Newstead and Bulimba. So a rail transfer IMHO is the way to go.

The choice of a tunnel does not prevent a green bridge (cycling + pedestrian with local bus) going in from Bulimba-Newstead.
There is talk that this Newstead-Bulimba bridge might also have to open up in half (i.e. be closed from time to time) for river traffic.

Despite this idea being voted into the Fantasy file previously, and one locked thread on the subject, why is it being revived yet again?

The continued posting of fantasy file ideas on this forum is seriously damaging it's credibility. Do we really want RBoT to end up not being taken serious anymore like some other public transport groups? May I suggest if we still require an outlet for those who have yet to land back in the sea of reality, that we have a "fantasy file" sub-forum? At least then fantasy ideas can be ignored by those who have a grasp on reality.

Can someone hand me the fire extinguisher please!
Somebody, can you lend me your flame proof suit?

If an expert wanted expert information, they would be looking up expert journals and expert papers, and talking to experts not google-ing  http://railbotforum.org/

This idea was never voted into the Fantasy file. http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=3789.0 A quick look shows that there were 7 votes for and 6 votes against. One person was undecided. So the forum is more or less evenly split on this idea.

I put a disclaimer on all my posts! Down with censorship!

Stephenk much as I often have a different perspective to you on many subjects I have to agree with your last post on this thread.

Perhaps a flameproof suit is not needed but a cold shower might be more effective and as to the credibility of the site it is closely followed by many decision makers in both public transport and government because of its credibility, a situation that it is preferable remains.

Thanks for the post. It's a valuable view.
Open discussion of controversial ideas is important.
Somebody should not need to have a flameproof suit.

Credibility of the site is important; I refrain from calling TransLink unsavoury terms or make calls to have it abolished. Despite TL's flaws, they have managed to pull off major patronage increases since 2004. Yes there are problems, but they must be worked with.

A lobby group for Translink, now that would be rally innovative, doubtful that it would be productive but could possibly provide considerable comic entertainment, obviously we have a few supporters of the insupportable proficient in spin who could form such a comedy team.
Now the comedy turn has had its gig can we now get genuinely serious please.

SteelPan

YES, a lobby for a STAGE THREE of the Underground project - is now underway, I've launched it and will rant like a mooss-headed crazzzzy ;D until I get someone to join me and then another and another...and soon, power will be ours...in the interim, we'll just focus on STAGE THREE, out from the "Gabba, through the inner east, Logan Rd, Mount Gravatt...down to Springwood and into Logan!   :-t
