Yandina, due to depart 1.04pm, actual 1.32pm.

Potentially, plenty of room for stabling yards.  No room at Nambour ..

Cooroy due 1.29pm.  Actual 1.51pm  ( just made lunch at the RSL  :) )

Held on the passing loop north of Yandina ...  Sunlander ? just passed at speed ...

By the looks of things, the 5 minute delay at Narangba caused this service several other delays the further north it went?

ozbob

Yes Clinton, once the slots are lost becomes a bit problematic.

Now Brisbane bound on ICE 154, bad acoustic noise last car.  About to move forward ..

Battery about to give up.

Landsborough 5.31pm ( 6 minutes late).  Had a good look around Cooroy, Yandina, Eumundi and Nambour.

There is a very strong case for more trains.  Stabling really does need to be at Yandina.  Nambour can then be 'value added'.

The present Sunshine Coast line timetable is a national disgrace.  Sun is not shining on such a poor frequency.

Come on, come on ...

Maybe the newer trains should have powerpoints on them for laptops...

Good to see an ICE train. ICE trains already have neat little fold out tables for laptops, but I don't see the provision of power points on Citytrain stock any time soon. That could go against Zero Harm.

Bob, just out of curiosity, how did you make the stops at each of the stations north of Nambour, given the very poor frequency?

I am only guessing here..

Bob caught the Noosa Heads 631 Via Cooroy bus from Nambour to Eumundi and Yandina.. vice versa for the way back to Nambour

I was met at Cooroy by a local citizen and given a quick tour using a 'horseless carriage'  :).  You are right, not possible to visit stations in the short time I was there given the poor train frequency.

There is much development (residential and industrial), it is time there were some substantial improvements with the rail service.  Yandina has lots of room and stabling there would allow a much better train frequency north and south of Nambour.  It would allow Nambour to be upgraded in conjunction with the development proposed for the old sugar mill site.  More regular services north and south of Nambour are needed now.

A progressive upgrade of track amplifications between Landsborough and Nambour on the new alignments is one approach, given that Beerburrum to Landsborough is started ASAP.  This is a critical project.

It was rather bizarre waiting at Elimbah to use up the time savings gained on the Beerburrum to Caboolture leg on the return journey.  We just sat there ...  crazy.  I am getting very annoyed at the constant failures in Queensland to capitalise on the infrastructure we have.  It is unacceptable.

Of course, Ozbob, the late running of your Cooroy train meant that the Noosa-bound 632 bus that normally connects with the train at 1.40pm would not have been able to collect train passengers for the continuing journey to Noosa/Noosa Heads.  This happens all too frequently.  The Citytrain ICE, trying to run to a strict timetable, must duck and weave its way north on a single track that is simultaneously trying to cater to the movements of the Sunlander and Tilt Trains running north and south (evidence the fact that your train had to wait to reverse back into Nambour, then wait again on a siding further up).  At least the Sunlander passengers alighting at Cooroy would have been able to make the Noosa bus connection, it would seem, but not the hapless people on the ICE from Brisbane.  :(

Poor? I can't think of another word espically when there is only like two direct services that reach cooroy per day (one up and one back), Unless you use a method that involves switching/hoping train and bus services.

The idea that the Mooloolah to Eudlo section of single track be duplicated on the planned new alignment as a priority makes sense.  It is consistent with the (very) long-term plans for the line in circumstances where the government is crying poor.  Perhaps the government should also look at bringing forward the redevelopment of the Nambour railway station to capitalise on adjoining commercial development.  (Maybe some land swaps and joint parking deals could be done.)  That would fit in with calls for train stabling at Yandina (allowing existing train stabling at Nambour to be converted to parking, or for some commercial use to raise money to government) and overcome the situation where Citytrain services have to be shunted onto siding and then reversed back into the No.1 platform.  More platforms, more options, more patrons.

That's sweet: 1000 new jobs

QuoteThat's sweet: 1000 new jobs

Erin Long | 24th November 2010

NAMBOUR'S former sugar mill is set to be transformed into a shoppers' haven.

Coles has lodged a development application for the historic site for a supermarket and retail outlets which are expected to create more than 1000 jobs.

Coles spokesman Jim Cooper said the application before council included plans to build a state-of-the-art supermarket and a number of speciality shops.

There is also another 1245 square metres allocated on the first floor for office and serviced suites.

The plans are available for public comment until December 17.

"The proposed new supermarket will measure 4000 square metres, significantly larger than the old store on Currie Street which was about 2400 square metres," Mr Cooper said.

"We believe bringing Coles back to Nambour will give residents greater choice, value and convenience for their grocery shopping."

Mr Cooper said the project would bring life back into Currie Street.

Coles first opened a supermarket, originally known as Penneys, in Currie Street in 1931.

Councillor Paul Tatton said he welcomed Coles back to Nambour.

"Woolworths has the monopoly so the competition will be good and hopefully make grocery prices cheaper," he said.

The Coles plan shows the development's frontage to be on Mill Street and connected to Mitchell Street via an internal link road to alleviate traffic congestion.

"The traffic plans also include roundabouts and smart streetscaping that follows Nambour's current revitalisation plans," Mr Cooper said.

"Coles traffic engineers have designed workable solutions to Nambour's current traffic congestion. We believe the proposed construction of the new link road will help resolve some of the congestion in town."

The plan provides 370 car parks and 16 motorbike spaces.

Mr Cooper said the development included three heritage-listed mill cottages, including the former mill manager's home, which would be renovated for commercial use.

"The surrounding grounds will also be refurbished to provide a privately owned park setting," Mr Cooper said.

"Coles will work with Nambour Museum to ensure the precinct honours the town's heritage."

The Coles development application can be viewed in person at council's customer service centre or online at council's website by accessing the PD online section and entering the application number MCU10/0016.

:-w FINALLY :-w (it's only been coming for the last 7 years)
I'm just hoping Big Bob, Tatton and Council itself don't cause any complications with their application project or put up too many restrictions like they do so well up here, ie David Jones store at Sunshine Plaza.

Better car parking for Cooroy train station

Monday 29 November 2010

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan today announced a $100,000 improvement for the Cooroy train station car park.

Ms Nolan said work on creating 40 car parks would start early in the new year, replacing the current dirt car park on Elm Street (near the intersection with Cooroy-Noosa Road).

"The Cooroy train station car park upgrade will also include improved lighting and CCTV coverage, making it a safer and more secure place to park your car," Ms Nolan said.

"This upgrade will make catching the train from Cooroy a lot easier and encourages commuters to be environmentally-friendly by using public transport.

"The project will also help ease traffic congestion on the Bruce Highway and other major arterial roads in the area."

Ms Nolan said the work was being funded under the State Government's $200 million Station Upgrade program to upgrade almost one third of train stations across South East Queensland.

"The program is the biggest upgrade since services began in the 1860s and will give these stations new and improved facilities," Ms Nolan said.

"I'm pleased that the Sunshine Coast community has received a share in this record spend on the South East Queensland network."

Queensland Rail and TransLink will work with the building teams to minimise disruptions for customers during the station enhancement works. Construction is expected to take about two months.

Project information will be on display in Cooroy and advertisements placed in local newspapers in December.

"We'll encourage people to have their say about this upgrade project before it gets underway," Ms Nolan said.

For further information about the project, visit the TransLink website www.translink.com.au or phone 13 12 30.

An upgrade is an upgrade, it should be welcomed...
Sometimes Park + Ride is what is required. I hope they throw in a few bicycle racks (not boxes or lockers, few people will go to the hassle of filling out the form) to allow cycling to the station. It's a cheap thing to do.

Wow, this very issue was raised by someone in our CRG meeting with QR back in about (guessing) April or May, 2010.
Now it's been announced!
I'm impressed with QR and their CRG's for sure.  :-t

Rumour has it that a splash of paint might find its way to the walls of the station buildings also.

Would need trains to catch first :p

Lol.  The locals will be dizzy with excitement at the prospect of catching two return services a day to/from Central and Gympie.  Into the future, maybe hope of shuttle trains Gympie-Nambour that would (1) maximise passenger numbers on the Nambour-Caboolture-Brisbane run and (2) free up train paths south of Caboolture.
