I intend to go to this session to support the Sunshine Coast rail commuters.  There is a track closure Sherwood to Rosewood on the 4 - 5 December.  Be able to catch the rail bus from Oxley to Sherwood  ;)  I will have to leave an extra hour or so though.

Anyway.  Saturday 4th December, the train leaves central at 6.29am for a 8.27am arrival at Nambour.

Hopefully it will be an IMU but I am going to go the toilet before we leave just in case!

I have set-up a single-issue blog, called PlanSTINK, to rally commuters for the meeting and to highlight the absurdity of many of the peak hour changes to the Sunshine Coast line. There is a link on the blog to Rail Back on Track which continues to do a great job representing rail users.

Welcome Family Man!  What is the URL of your blog please, happy to highlight it.

Hello All,

I have invited Hon. Andrew Powell MP, Member for Glass House to the Nambour Information Session on Saturday 4th December, and he has accepted.
I can also confirm that Hon. Mark McArdle MP, Member for Caloundra will also be in attendance at the meeting.

The Hon. Andrew Powell MP, has written to the Hon. Rachel Nolan MP, Member for Ipswich and the Minister for Transport about our concerns over the timetable and it's impacts on Sunshine Coast commuters.

The Hon. Fiona Simpson MP, Member for Maroochydore is unable to attend on the day and sends her apology.
She has also written to the Hon. Rachel Nolan MP, Member for Ipswich and the Minister for Transport about our concerns over the timetable and it's impacts on Sunshine Coast commuters and will forward on the reply.

I can also announce that another elected representative, Ms Tracey Davis MP, Member for Aspley will also now be attending the information session.
Ms Davis is the new Shadow Minister for Public Transport.

All these Sunshine Coast MP's have expressed their concern for Sunshine Coast commuters adversely affected by the draft 2011 timetable.
We are sincerely grateful for their support.

Signed on behalf of Sunshine Coast commuters adversely affected by this reprehensible timetable.

I met the 5.16pm train from central when it arrived at Nambour this evening and offered alighting passengers a leaflet publicising the consultation session on Saturday.  Almost everyone said 'I have one of those' or 'I signed the petition', so someone (not me) has been active.  I sighted the petition tonight also.

One thing concerns me, and that is the fact that the session is at the 'Nambour Community Centre'.  I think some people could confuse the community centre for the Nambour Civic Centre, which is adjacent to the station.  Maybe a sign should go up there redirecting people to the community centre.

Also, this won't be a two hour information session requiring people to attend for the whole 2 hours -- people can visit between the hours of 10am and noon to inspect timetables and quiz staff.

Hello Stillwater,

That was me.
I handed out copies of your leaflet on my way home on the 5:16pm.
All but 1 person refused to take it on the 3 front carriages. Incredible really.
It shows the depth of feeling.
Many had their hands out ready to take it and thanked us for doing something about it.

Covered that too Stillwater, I did mention the format it would take as I dished them out.

The community forum and structured meeting format will replicate what most people attending the Nambour feedback session thought would happen today.  While we should be grateful to the three Opposition MPs for their attendance today, and their offer to provide a further forum (including a presentation by Translink/QR), we should be wary that members of the public are not roped into some sort of political exercise.  For instance, it behoves the Opposition MP's to outline their public transport policy, as they are the alternative government if voters are so inclined.

RailBOT is, and no doubt will remain, an apolitical organisation.  That enhances its credibility with both sides of politics.

Better public transport should be front and foremost in the debate leading to the next state election.  But not everyone uses public transport.  The task ahead is to portray poor public transport services in Queensland as symbolic, or emblematic, of a general failure to provide government services across the board.

That would make both sides of politics sit up and listen.  We can assume that the Opposition, at least, is listening, as it has appointed a shadow Public Transport Minister (as opposed to a Transport Minister) for the first time.

couldn't agree more Stillwater.  :-t

No need to portray PT as poor, it is a obvious fact! Just frame the sunshine coast line timetable and hang it on the wall as proof!

My train off peak is 30 minutes, that is not good enough!
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

wow, we can only dream of such services ... somebody pinch me.  :)
