From http://www.translink.com.au/qt/translin.nsf/index/sc_go_easter_08

enjoy an extra Easter treat on go card

During Easter, go card users can travel for free on all bus, train and ferry services across the TransLink network (excluding Airtrain).

Free travel applies from midnight Thursday 20 March until midnight Monday 24 March 2008 for go card users only.

TransLink go card users need to show their go card to the bus driver, QR station staff or ferry masters to travel for free during the Easter go card promotion.

TransLink go card users do not need to touch on or touch off during the Easter go card promotion. In the event that you do mistakenly touch on or touch off the amount can be refunded by calling TransLink on 13 12 30, if your card is registered.

While I applaud Translink for giving us something for free, wouldn't you think they'd simply set the fares to zero on those days?

That way:

(a) you could touch on as normal and not be charged - and avoid the phone calls and hassles from those who do touch on;

(b) Translink can readily see how many people took them up on the offer;

(c) Your Go Card travel history would be complete (for what that's worth)

Given the millions they spent on this system, surely it has a "don't charge people on these dates" button?

Yes for sure Monkey.

I therefore wonder if they are doing some updates to the system over Easter and they don't want to have it active? But the advice that  you touch and you claim a refund seems to suggest it might be still active. So maybe they are doing some work on it and will be testing throughout the period and don't want folks touching?
