Minister for Transport
The Honourable Rachel Nolan

Queensland Rail Customer Service named best in the country

Queensland Rail has taken top honours at the Australian Customer Service Excellence national awards ceremony in Sydney.

Facing fierce competition from some of the country's biggest corporations, Queensland Rail was announced the winner in two major categories.

Theo Taifalos was named Chief Customer Officer of the Year, while Customer Care General Manager Sue Jefford took the National Training of the Year award.

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said the recognition was a wonderful example of how the newly-formed Queensland Rail business focused on providing an excellent standard of service for its customers.

"Since July 1 this year Queensland Rail has been a dedicated customer-focused business, and these awards are evidence that Queenslanders are reaping the benefits," Ms Nolan said.

"In only a few short months Queensland Rail introduced new and improved services including the trial of a Quiet Carriage, Wi-Fi on trains and is now putting the finishing touches to its Customer Charter which will be released next month.

"It's pleasing to see Queensland Rail taking honours against stiff competition from the big banks and international airlines like ANZ and Virgin Blue, as well as other rail operators including Railcorp."

Queensland Rail CEO Paul Scurrah said he was proud and delighted that his team was being recognised on the national stage.

"Safety and customer service are our top priorities, and we have a dedicated team of 7000 people committed to providing an excellent standard of service for all of our customers," Mr Scurrah said.

"Congratulations to Theo and Sue who are deserving of these awards."

Earlier this year Queensland Rail received accreditation against the International Customer Service Standard, becoming the first transport company in the world to receive this certification.
