QuoteDo you have a concern about public transport in Brisbane? Until 2pm today commuters have an opportunity to fast-track their complaints about trains, buses and ferries directly to the top.

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan is working with Queensland Rail staff at Central Station, where she is checking tickets and providing travelling advice.

The shift is part of the state government program where ministers spend a day with everyday workers learning about their jobs. Ms Nolan began at 6am and welcomed thousands of commuters from her electorate in Ipswich.

She survived the peak-hour rush relatively unscathed, receiving only a handful of customer comments, mostly in relation to the GoCard system. But the minister believes she can expect more feedback over the quieter lunchtime period.

"This morning has very much been the rush so people are on their way to work, very much head down, get their way through," Ms Nolan said.

"But I would expect that as the day goes by and people have a bit more of an opportunity to look up [they'll make comments]."

The express line is open until 2pm at which time Ms Nolan will finish for the day.

You have to give the Minister top marks for getting out and about and gaining an understanding of the network from (as she would put it) the 'punters' perspective'.

Desperation surfaces again, like the Premier she listens? then ignores the comment she receives unless it can be spun into a positive for her and the Government, still this Minister is only there until the next election, then on becoming unemployed the job training she has been undertaking may prove useful in obtaining further future employment.   :bi

Maybe she could go for a trip on the north coast line?  :)

Desperation surfaces again,
What's the problem with this one?

I was expecting you to comment on the Ipswich bus changes also.

Confirming the worst performing bus operator in the state has had their contract renewed for the provision of bus services in the Ipswich area gives Ipswich residents who suffer the worst levels of commuter service little faith in the competence of the Minister, Queensland Transport or Translink.
For any who doubt the pathetic levels of service inflicted on the residents of Ipswich try living in the district and relying on the services provided.   :bu

How does the bus contracts work? I've never seen them openly offered for tendering etc. Is it actually competitive?

Ok, but I don't know what the problem with the minister meeting with commuters is.  Although it wasn't actually decently advertised.

No problem with this Minister meeting and talking to commuters but like the Premier it seems to be more a case of political desperation and wanting to be seen to be doing something while there is no intention of taking on board the opinions expressed or doing anything towards rectifying the problems espoused by the commuters.
The reorganising of the Ipswich bus services being a prime example.

Which does explain the lack of publicity!

Not really the right thread, but, the latest re-org offers nothing?  I would have though a 15 minute frequency on the 515 and getting rid of hail 'n' ride isn't bad.
