Half price go card travel compared to the old daily ticket?

Starting a new thread because I can't find an answer but:

I live on Bribie Island and use my Go Card (Senior flavour) for two distinct purposes, to work in the Valley twice a week - drive to Morayfield and ride Caboolture line offpeak, and also to jump the buses around Bribie Island where the local service is actually quite good and frequent during daylight hours anyway.

Prior to getting the Card I used to buy a daily paper ticket which, in the case of the train was $4.30 concession offpeak, and the bus was about $2 something.
The train currently works out $4.96 for two trips x $2.43 so not too savage - yet.  :-\
Now a couple of months ago I got to work, felt sick and headed straight home on the train to Caboolture. I was only charged $2.43 for the whole return trip as the intervening touch ons and offs were calculated as transfers, so my trip was just charged as a single because I presume it all happened within a certain time frame.

Interesting. The same thing appears to be happening on the buses as well. Here's my trip from the end of my street to Aldi and back the other day.

In the old days a single ticket would have got me to Aldi and another single ticket to get me home or, of course, buy the daily paper ticket. Is this single-trip fare the intention of the system or is it just the case that the system isn't smart enough to work out that my start and end points were actually the same, i.e. a return trip? Certainly cheaper than the car to pop up the street and back  :-t

Generally it would be a transfer if it's within 1 hour of your last touch off.  Yes, the system isn't smart enough in this case.

Often I use this to my advantage. I live in Toowong (bus zone 2) and often need to go over to Indooroopilly (bus zone 2) for one or two things that will only take about ten or so minutes (e.g. bank deposit). So the return journey is counted as a transfer, and zero cost. Same for the train, a quick Toowong>Central>Toowong - only pay for one trip.

I don't think this is a flaw, I think it is actually something intentional. But even if it is a flaw, it still works to the benefit of the commuter.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Agreed, it's been around ever since Go Card was released, and beyond that during trial periods.  So I think it's just simply how the system is set up, whether intentionally or not.  Regardless, I'm not complaining :D!
