BUS users in Melbourne's eastern suburbs have been given a boost with services more than doubled.

Public Transport Minister Martin Pakula announced yesterday that the start of the Doncaster Area Rapid Transit services would begin next month - it was planned to start in 2011.

Mr Pakula said passengers could use the new bus services free for a fortnight from October 4 and the new SmartBus Route 901 to the airport from September 26.
