As per thread title - why isn't there a "flying squad" of transit officers available to assist with incidents on buses?

There seems to be at least one mechanic in a ute available at all times to respond to mechanical problems. Twice in the last week I have seen this mechanic-in-a-ute called to deal with unruly (or at least uncooperative) passengers! Surely this is not in the mechanic's job description? Surely is it a breach of OH&S rules?

Both times the mechanic arrived at a stop before the bus did and waited for it to arrive. It's not like the mechanic just happened to be around and came to the assistance of a driver in distress. In both incidents the driver stood back and allowed the mechanic to deal with the passenger and as far as I could tell it was the mechanic's decision both times to get the Police involved.

What is going on here? Is my safety as a bus passengebeing compromised by a lack of transit officers?

They would be Busway Safety Officers, not mechanics so yes its entirely appropriate.

This 'mechanic-in-a-ute' is not a mechanic.. He is from NCC ( Network Co-ordination Centre ).. NCC staff operate the radio system at Bus Control, supervise the QSBS and also attend on road incidents and carry out very minor on road repairs to buses.
7 years at Bayside Buses
33 years at Transport for Brisbane
Retired and got bored.
1 year at Town and Country Coaches and having a ball !
