Australia:  The rail renaissance is under way

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has said in the 2010 Federal election campaign there has been a shift to sustainable rail transport policies and commitments for the future economic benefit and social amenity of Australia for both passenger and freight transport.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"As has been highlighted by the Australasian Railway Association road trauma is out of control in terms of costs and distressing social effects (1).  It is then pleasing to note the shift by all parties and most candidates to safe, sustainable rail transport commitments for the future."

"The merits of the respective policies and commitments by all parties and candidates are to be weighed by the electorate this Saturday."

"All we ask is that the commitments for rail be translated into action with the establishment of the new Government (2). This is critical for Australia to move forward."
