Bus package

Used a bus via the GBB today for the first time.  (Used a bus in the week which should have gone that way but didn't.)  I'd have to say that it seems a lower benefit than I was expecting, although at that time of day, Milton Rd outbound traffic would have been a dead set shocker, and it certainly avoided that.

Why does the 412 not now run along the northern busway and terminate at cultural centre??
"Where else but Queensland?"

Umm, are you kidding?

  • For a start that would waste space in KGSBS which would be far better used for other services
  • Would need to use the awful Cribb St outbound routing, unless you use the not much better Turbot St portal and Ann St
  • Would not really be any faster except when traffic is heavy
  • Would add to Cultural Centre congestion
Is that enough reasons?

They should have run it along Adelaide St though.  I'd like all the Toowong via Coro routes to have the same or adjacent city stop locations but that isn't going to be that easy.

It might be possible. BUZ 412 is the only BUZ I know of that does not service the sacred cow stop.  :P

As O_128 stated, it could go via Roma Street, then it could use the turn around before King George Square to exit on to Roma Street and then right into Ann St and then left back on to North Quay.

How worthwhile is that interchange opportunity?

A friend of mine told me there are some UQ students who change from their train at Roma St and catch a 444 outbound. I would assume that they would then change either somewhere on Coro drive or at Toowong. NFI though how many actually do that. IMO running the 412 but not the 109 via Roma St runs a risk of massive causing massive overcrowding on the 412 and hardly anyone using the 109. The walk to the current Adelaide St stop would most often be as long as or longer then the difference in walking distance between the 2 UQ stops so why would you bother if you could just change right at Roma St?

I disagree about running the 412 along the whole length of Adelaide St though. It would be fine when its going to the City, but when its leaving where would you have it stop to have a stop paired with the current stop 16, without confusing people as to where they should catch the bus from? Unless you intend to just extend the loop it currently does via George St to go via Creek St or something? Downside of that though would be that those who do actually catch it from its current stop now have to suffer a longer trip and get stuck in traffic in the city.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

But 412 is a BUZ, if the load increases then just get a bigger bus! People will still use 109, its faster and good for passengers who transfer from other buses.

Bring on 66 + 109 as well

It's one of my suggestions that there is probably a need for a stop on George St between Adelaide & Ann Sts for the 411/415/417/433/445/471.  The 412 could use this stop outbound.  Even if you don't do this, it is reasonably easy to use a train/444 to Toowong from that part of town.

Yet another example of something which currently is not duplicated between inbound/outbound but Translink find it acceptable in this situation.

The turnaround is at the south end of KGSBS.

For the love of God, no.  A lot of my ideas have revolved around getting busses off North Quay (where achievable), and you are seeking to expand the cancer?  Your proposed routing would be very slow.

I'd far rather they increased the frequency.  I'm dubious about the 402 on weekends too.

That's because the counter peak train service at Toowong and Milton is unacceptable.
