Gympie / Maryborough West

Increase the frequency of Trains from Gympie to Brisbane.  Services terminating at Nambour could be run through to Gympie.

Consideration could also given to introducing dedicated trains from Maryborough West.  This will service a rapidly growing population area including Hervey Bay.  The underutilised ICE sets could provide this service.

I know that under the network plans, Cooroy will get an extra daily service - but only 'when justified by demand'.

Presently, during the week Cooroy, Yandina and Eumundi are serviced by the morning run from Gympie North to the City and the afternoon run from the City to Gympie North, plus the middle of the day service that leaves the city and goes to Cooroy, waits, then comes back. Unfortunately, the 'Cooroylander' is probably the most unreliable Citytrain service. It's frequently late leaving the City, which only makes it worse as this is one of the longest Citytrain routes. It's usually because the ICE units with Toilets break down regularly.

I realise that this was posted over a year ago, but I used to live in Maryborough, so thought I might throw in a comment.

Maryborough/Hervey Bay is currently serviced by two tilt train services to and from Brisbane each day.  The morning service gives you enough time to shop in Brissy or attend appointments, then catch the late afternoon service home - so you don't have to stay overnight.

Given that the tilt train service is a lot quicker than the IMU's (even the latest ones), I doubt a citytrain-style service to Maryborough would be utilised.

Also the major area of growth is Hervey Bay.  Maryborough West station is on the opposite side of Maryborough to Hervey Bay.  It takes over 40 minutes for the Hervey Bay bus to get to Maryborough West station.  It is generally quicker to catch a bus to/from Brisbane - and you don't have the added hassle of having to change between a bus and train.

Perhaps if they'd kept the train line between Maryborough and Hervey Bay they could've electrified it and run services between Hervey Bay and Brisbane.  Perhaps it will be like the Gold Coast line - and one day they'll realise it was a mistake to rip it up.

I believe that there should be a twice daily "Tilt" train service between Brisbane and Rockhampton. An ICE set could then operate a daily Brisbane-Bundabery evening service, returning to Brisbane each morning.  The "Tilt" trians could depart both Brisbane and Rockhampton at 7:00am and 3:00pm, Sunday to Friday. The sets would be cleaned and recieve minor repares on Saturdays.
