Bowen Hills and Enoggera also have the wraps. Quite why TransLink did not do this when the Go-Card was first introduced is anyones guess!

Why would a large orange sticker make beeps louder?

I posted earlier in this thread that the reader at Oxley sounded louder.  Jonno's comment was just a followup to that.  I know that new speakers are being progressively fitted to the bus devices, maybe to some of the station  readers too?

I think wraps for trains and wraps for readers are a cheap and effective way of deterring graffiti and making the thing look nice.
Make the stations look good, and people will use PT and vandalism will go down.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Why are they botherring?
So that people can see them. It's harder to forgetfully walk past a grey reader than a bright orange reader. There is also something saying  "touch here", just to help the truly clueless (and there are many about - I saw someone trying to swipe a paper ticket against a gate arrow sign a few weeks ago!)

There are many, many, many better things for them to be doing.

For cost vs benefit, I think it was a good idea. They should have been wrapped when the Go-Card was introduced.

I decided to watch the passengers swipe off at Morningside tonight and I swear they were swiping off quicker.  The scanner and light seemed clearer and their speed was something I had not observed before.  Probably anecdotal but was amazing to watch.

QuoteHave you ever struggled to find the Go-Card Reader on a train platform?

They seem to blend in with all the other silvery, shiny things - especially on refurbished platforms.

But there's good news!

Translink is in the process of fixing that! And this morning 612 ABC Brisbane Breakfast reporter Anne O'Keeffe is finding out how:

Are lcd screens being replaced?  I found them impossible to read in sunlight, and some at Wacol were hard to read anytime.  And do not get me started on the vertical screens on buses!

ozbob

Welcome beetsje!

Yes, a new LCD screen is being developed and the angle of the screens is being varied.  Some pilots soon to go out.

Cheers
