Milton Station

Not sure if this has been mentioned before .. I travelled through Milton Station today and noticed that the concrete walls on the Milton Road side have all been painted a pale grey colour. They used to have some really nice artwork murals on them. From memory one of the murals was a depiction of the XXXX Brewery and some tropical greenery with the William Jolly Bridge linking them. You can still see the artwork through the thin layer of grey paint. another mural was something to do with the Queensland Reds Rugby team.

Any one know the reason why this has been done? It used to look really nice and now it looks very very ordinary.

Yes I think it is platform 4 . . the inbound one right next to Milton Road.

Ok thanks.  I have asked QR if they know what is going on.  Hope they haven't been vandalised or something.  They were quite good I thought as well.

It is definitly not vandalism .. the whole wall which is quite large has been painted pale grey. Must have taken quite some time to do I would have thought. It looks to be only part done as it is only one coat of paint.

Yes, it is not vandalism.  It would appear that an upgrade is under way.  More advice will be forthcoming later.

When i went past today it was being painted sky blue

I went down and had a look.  Seems to me a new art installation is happening.  Yes, sky blue sky I think.

YES, the Qld Govt/Translink WORLD CLASS Upgrade of Milton Railway Station is underway.....rail users are now enjoying the benefit of a new coat of grey...no wait...blue paint, YES, we found some blue, no, we found some WORLD CLASS blue paint and its up-and-running (hopefully not far).  

Here's just a small sample of what rail users had to say about this WORLD CLASS upgrade:

Kelly (receptionist) said, "it was amazing, I was waiting for the 8.11am, 8.16am, 8.19am and could finally squeeze on the 8.27am to the city, and my last gasp of fresh air and vision, before looking at fellow traveller arm-pits was the WORLD CLASS blue wall..."

Davo (computer salesmen) said, "the 8.12am to Indroo finally arrived at 8.24am and I was standing there, like looking at this WORLD CLASS blue wall....if only the train door worked....I got on the 8.38am but, it arrived a little before 9.00am...I hope to start looking for a new job in WORLD CLASS Queensland later this week...."

Finally, Chris (insurance) said..."you buch of &^*%$ b&^#$%s...." Chris had to go, but he was thrilled with the WORLD CLASS blue wall too!

Queensland Beautiful One Day...WORLD CLASS Blue Wall's the Next....

You know, there was quite a good piece of artwork there by well known Brisbane artist Simon Degroot.
Maybe the new installation is a work in progress?

Yes, there is some new positive pARTnership stuff on the way at Milton.  I had a look at Graceville rail today, the subway is very neat fully lined with murals.  

One thing is standing out though, the graffiti along the Ipswich line corridor is everywhere.  It seems that attempts to control or remove it have been given up.

I have noticed a few sets with graffiti running around as well.  Seems that they are allowing them to finish the runs before removing them for cleaning.

I am a bit concerned about this new mural at Milton. The logos of the ABC and Mary Ryan's appear in it. Do these corporations pay for this advertising or QR giving them a freebie?

Where? Are they just slapped on top, or are they part of the picture? If they're not part of the picture then yes they should have done something to earn the advertising rights, but its their logos are on things that just happened to be in the picture then I think its fine.

Either way, it still looks pretty swanky.

In the first picture in ozbob's post. Just to the left of the yellow bin. You can't really tell from that picture, but in real-life it is a clear depiction of the Mary Ryan's shop on Park Rd with the associated Mary Ryan's and ABC logos. The picture of the BT Bus in the left of that picture, obscured by the Go Card reader near the stairs, is completely bare of any markings. I want to know why the BT livery is apparently unacceptable but commercial logos are. Is it because Mary Ryan's paid and BCC did not?

You're right. You can't really tell from that picture. But as for the BT bus, it looks half painted, so maybe they are putting the BT livery on it, they're just waiting for the paint underneath to dry properly first?

I still think that the original paintings that were at Milton Station looked much better than this thing they have painted over it with. My 2c worth.
