Noticed this on the TransLink website media release:

Brisbane's world class busway network has become an example of best practice for public transport all around the world, since the South East Busway opened in 2001.

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said recent comments by University of Sydney's Professor David Hensher that other states could learn from Brisbane's busway network are evident by the number of visiting delegates from all over the world to tour the busway network.

Well yeah, they are pretty awesome. Can you imagine how the buses would try and cope without the busways?

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I agree, credit where credit is due. Brisbane's busways are smashing and are truly world class.

Brisbane's bus stations leave a little bit to be desired (well, really just QSBS) but they get the job done.

They are good, but 66 + 109 and a western busway would be very welcome.
10 years: 4 busways, that's a pretty good delivery rate.

Meanwhile in railway-land, new projects crawl along...

Just shows how good they are at building freeways! Bit of a waste of space better used for rail. :'(

I disagree. There are definitely places where rail would be of better use. But the busway allows stops to be closer together and much higher frequencies, as well as the ability to have much tighter turns/steeper slopes.

Good luck building rail where the SE Busway and is. It would be an engineering miracle!

Not a well thought out comment johnnigh. Heavy rail and LRT would both cost considerably more to construct. Heavy rail could not be built on the same useful alignment into the city. LRT cannot match the busways capacity. Heavy rail and LRT cannot serve as many places with one seat journeys. Heavy rail and LRT (bearing in mind that feeder buses would be required) would have higher operating costs.

For Brisbane's needs, the busways are a cost effective and successful choice.
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2007 - 7tph
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2010 - 4tph
* departures from Central between 16:30 and 17:30.

let's not start this old debate again. We have different views and only time will tell.

I don't particularly care to debate LRT vs HRT vs BRT again either.
