TransLink ready for footy and Lady Gaga

TransLink is ready to carry up to 95,000 people to two colourful Lady Gaga concerts and three big footy matches this weekend, Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said.

More than 20,000 people have tickets for two Lady Gaga concerts at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Friday and Saturday nights.

Also on Saturday night, about 30,000 AFL fans are expected at The Gabba for the Brisbane Lions' first home game this season against the West Coast Eagles, and Skilled Park on the Gold Coast will host 15,000 people for the Gold Coast Titans and Canberra Raiders NRL clash.

On Sunday afternoon, about 30,000 people will be at Suncorp Stadium to see the Brisbane Broncos take on the New Zealand Warriors.

Ms Nolan said with large crowds at these events across South East Queensland, it was important that people planned their trip in advance.

"Lions fans should show their pre-purchased match-day game ticket to take advantage of free transport to and from the game on all Brisbane Transport and QR rail services on the TransLink network from midday until the last service on Saturday night," Ms Nolan said.

"The Gabba is a short walk from Woolloongabba busway station on the South East Busway.

"Event shuttle buses to The Gabba will operate every five minutes departing Roma Street station (stop 125) and Adelaide Street (stop 45 outside City Hall) from 5pm to 7.10pm.

"Shuttles to The Gabba will also operate every 15 minutes departing Eight Mile Plains busway station, Carindale bus interchange (Stop H) and Chermside bus interchange (Stop D) from 5pm to 6.50pm."

AFL fans travelling to the game by train should transfer to a shuttle bus service at South Bank or Roma Street busway stations.

Titans and Raiders fans should show their pre-purchased match-day game ticket to take advantage of free public transport to and from the game at Skilled Park on all Surfside Bus Lines and QR train services on the TransLink network from 4.30pm Saturday to 2.30am Sunday.

Broncos and Warriors fans with a pre-purchased match-day game ticket can also travel free to and from Suncorp Stadium on Brisbane Transport bus and QR train services on the TransLink network from 9am to the last scheduled service on Sunday (excluding Rail Bus and Brisbane City Council ferries).

Normal TransLink conditions and fares apply on all scheduled and extra services to Boondall train station for the Lady Gaga concerts.

For more information on extra services for these events and to plan your journey, visit TransLink's website www.translink.com.au or phone the Call Centre on 13 12 30.
