Hi all,
I don't know if it has come up for discussion on these forums, but something needs to be done about the ridiculous opening times for the access stairways from the pedestrian subway to the platforms at Central.

Now that there are Go Card gates on the stairway, why on earth do they lock up these access routes after 6pm? The subway is still open to pedestrians, and has CCTV for safety.

I got off a train at Central at around 8pm last night and was heading to Upper Edward St Spring Hill. It would have been very convenient to use the subway access to the elevator in the BCC Carpark on Wickham Tce.
The metal gates at the bottom of the stairs were locked as they usually are after 6pm. However, the Go Card gates were still operational (green arrows indicating availability). So the QR employee on the platform was having to warn alighting passengers not to use the Go Card gates, because they would have encountered the physical gate not far beyond. What is going on here?!!

If Brisbane is "Australia's New World City" as the government marketers are presently proclaiming, surely convenient access to platforms for late night services is a must.

Agree?

That's funny.  The obvious reason here is that they would have to be manned for revenue protection purposes.  But failing to turn off the go card readers means that people who have been fare evading can touch on here and touch off on exiting the station.

Even better open up the tunnel and include shops, cafe, Restaurants, etc so it is star 24 x 7.

Isn't the whole point of having physical Go Card gates to ensure revenue protection? ?The entrance can be Go Card only after 6pm. The gates are unidirectional so people can't tag on here  from the platform (unless they reach over the gates I suppose).

Coming from the airport, I have done precisely that.  I don't know that having it open, but Go card only and unmanned would work.  Too easy to pass through the gates then tag off for example.  Or tailgate someone.  Or tag on at Central rather than where you actually got on the train.
