Finally managed to get out and about on the bus to check out the placement of some AVVMs.

Short tour, member STB and myself.

Roma St to Wooloongabba 66 (artic bus very few pax ... ), Wooloongabba to UQ Lakes 209, UQ Lakes to Buranda 169, Buranda to Roma St 111.  Roma St to Corinda.  Broke through the 3 transfer barrier on the go card as well   :-w

The AVVMs look the same as the first generation, tickets, topups and go cards (adult) will be available when turned on, possibly tomorrow 29th Jan.

Second generation AVVM Wooloongabba

yee haa   FOUR (4) transfers !   :-c

And the other interesting thing I was debited with the off peak fare for the extra zone on the Roma St to Corinda trip on the train, even though commenced in peak.  It seems that when on a transfer  the off peak rates are maintained in all trips constituting that journey if the initial trip commenced off peak.  Way to go !!  (PS not sure if it is meant to be like that, but who is complaining ... lol)

What the hell are they?? they look exactly the same, And who designed these things??? how is an elderly person supposed to get there change??
"Where else but Queensland?"

ozbob

Yes, they are identical to the first generation AVVMs on the outside.  On the inside I think a few changes. What will be interesting is seeing how you select a bus ticket, although paper tickets are being phased out at the end of the year according to the statements that accompanied the latest fare changes.

Maybe they might keep the paper tickets available out of the AVVMs?  It seems pointless spending a lot of money developing systems to do paper if paper is going away ... ?

All AVVM's at train stations need to be updated to dispense Go Cards by the middle of the year!

(If we plan for the middle of the year, maybe.... just maybe... they'll be in place prior to tickets disappearing in 2011.)

QuoteGo Card dispensers switched on at bus stations
29 January 2010

From today, you'll be able to purchase adult Go Cards from any one of seventeen new machines at bus stations across Brisbane.

They also dispense bus tickets and, like Go Card machines you may already used, you can top-up your credit and check your balance and travel history.

New ticket machines for buses - Friday 29 January 2010

TransLink customers are able to top up their go cards and buy adult go cards at 12 additional locations at the busiest busway stations and bus interchanges.

TransLink CEO Peter Strachan said 17 new and improved go card machines were switched on today to make travelling even easier for commuters.

"Customers told us they wanted the convenience of topping up their go cards and buying tickets at busway stations and interchanges and we have listened," Mr Strachan said.

"As an added bonus these machines are also able to sell adult go cards for the first time.

"Commuters can also add value to their go cards, check their balance or trip history " last 10 journeys."

TransLink Helping Hands will also be at the 12 new locations each weekday for one week to help customers use the new ticket machines.

go card sales continue to increase, and are now used by close to 70 per cent of commuters during peak periods.

"Customers can now buy go cards at more than 390 locations across South East Queensland, including 7-Elevens, SupaNews newsagents, rail stations and independent retail outlets," Mr Strachan said.

"They can top them up at over 1,000 locations, or over the phone or internet, making it easier than ever."

The new machines will be located at Mater Hill, Woolloongabba, South Bank, King George Square, Griffith Uni, Garden City, Upper Mt Gravatt, QUT Kelvin Grove, Cultural Centre, Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital, Buranda and Chermside Interchange.

Late but a good move.  Now for all rail stations to sell adult go cards including limited or one day cards lime Singapore.

I have had issues with this on the old machines and QR ticket offices.... it used to give last 5 trips, not even journeys... which was useless because if you travelled with three transfers inbound and out, you´d get less than two journeys worth of history on paper. Not so much a big deal for me with the internet, but surprised others without internet haven´t found this more difficult.

So why not at RCH Herston and Normanby?

Have Translink forgotten that RCH Herston exists?

Only the last 5 trips??  It's always been the past 10 trips for ever since I got the card just prior to the launch.

So there is just an electrical plug and safety fencing where the ticket machine should be at UQ Lakes?

It is possible that where it might be going, or possibly some vending machines removed?

One media release to tell us 'its coming'
another media release to tell us 'they are installed'
another media release to tell us 'we have now switched them on'

I wondered why it took them long to "switch on" the new machines.  Testing?

Surely not as busy as Indooroopilly, Carindale or Toombul?

dwb

QuoteSo there is just an electrical plug and safety fencing where the ticket machine should be at UQ Lakes?

I believe this is where the TV for the green bridge art/info interpretive plasma screen was installed. I believe it has been removed leaving the base wiring with the hazard fence. Totally unrelated to Go card AAVMs.

QuoteTransLink CEO Peter Strachan said 17 new and improved go card machines were switched on today to make travelling even easier for commuters.

Apparently there are 40 machines to be installed... where are the other 23?

Also, why is the machine at Cultural Centre on the inbound platform... it would seem that this station is at peak in the afternoon in the outbound direction, not on the inbound platform? I only had a quick look but I didn't see on on the bridge - did I miss it??

dwb

Just a footnote, submitted an RTI (right to information request) on community engagement undertaken by Translink and the Communications plan outlines that 40 AAVMs will be installed, but does not say where. The RTI form acknowledges that Translink will make the documents requested and approved, available to the public, this should be on their disclosure log by tomorrow.... will see if it turns up, otherwise I'm happy to upload the document here (or scribd) - it should be in the public domain anyway!

What features/services does that blue "information" machine offer (never seen one before....)?

Its basically a journey planner. You choose your destination and it prints the itinerary for you.

It is a touch screen web kiosk running the standard translink journey planner.

Thats what I said. Whether or not it is the same one as on the website is a moot point. All journey planners do the same thing - plan journeys.
