SEQ:  Rail is the way forward for a real future

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has said there is no reason why promised rail infrastructure projects should not be delivered (1, 2).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Rail is going to be the way forward for transport in Queensland and Australia. Sustainable, economically sound and safe it is time we broke the shackles of the road centric transport mantra and got on with real sustainable transport solutions."

"As recent events have indicated, over engineered road systems are now a 'congestion-busting' failure. The road centric city transport system can now be called a monumental failure in terms of ever escalating costs in terms of congestion, the mounting costs of road trauma (3), and ever worsening environmental impacts.  It is time to invest in proper sustainable transport solutions.  The massive imbalance in road funding compared to proper investments in  mass transit systems can now be finally addressed."

"The funds for the urgently needed rail projects such as Cross River Rail and the Moreton Bay Rail Link are easily found if the unwarranted road and tunnel funding are held in check."
