Fire closes railway station

A FIRE apparently sparked by track maintenance forced the temporary closure of South Brisbane railway station this morning.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service crews dowsed the remnants of a small fire that started overnight on the railway sleepers.

The QFRS was called to the station at about 6.20am.

A Queensland Rail spokeswoman said it was believed the fire started during routine maintenance on the tracks.

The station re-opened shortly after 7am.
