Media Release 19 February 2010

SEQ:  Public transport on the move, partly ..

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has welcomed the bus and ferry changes from this coming Monday, the 22nd of February.  Commuters are still waiting for promised rail improvements however.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The changes to the bus and ferry public transport on Monday are overall a big improvement, overdue but welcome (1,2).  The introduction of express CityCat services is significant."

"There is a need for more rail services too. There are too many gaps in the timetables for example the Ipswich to Rosewood  peak PM gap and Sunshine Coast line generally, and  frequency overall on all lines must be improved (3)."

"More peak rail services are needed.  I travelled on the 5.09pm service from Roma St to Ipswich yesterday afternoon and it was overloaded and oppressive. Commuters do not like paying more for 'sardine can' chronic congestion and poor frequency."

Every time I read about congestion I think why don't they just put another train on?
The fare rises have the money coming in so what is the holdup?

I don't think they like us ....  :-r   :-*

There are some very annoyed people around at the moment, the constant disruption and congestion is getting to them.
