Improving TransLink Reporting

This one flowed on from Ozbob's link to the statistics- maybe a few changes need to be made to the Annual Report and Tracker.
At the bottom of the Surveys and Statistics page, is something called 'TransPerth Surveys' 2009 Executive Summary.

* TransPerth does not do the survey itself or the agencies it contracts.
An external market research firm Painted Dog (http://www.painteddog.com.au/) does the work instead.
This improves transparency.

* The report lists everything, very comprehensive, warts and all.
The statistics are capable and do 'frown' at times- a sign that the
statistics are sensitive instruments of what they are trying to actually measure.

* Written responses are taken so the reasons why something went wrong are known.

The feedback may not be nice, but it is very useful. IMHO "Smiley statistics" which always
smile are useless and defeat the very purpose of reporting in the first place -- to identify problems and fix them.

Some examples:

(Examples of the breakdown of responses from dis-satisfied customers, most were satisfied)

* Insufficient off-peak services / poor service on weekends/ need more services (general)‟ (41%);[page 10]
* Buses don't connect well/more feeder services required (28%)

page 90 interesting:

* more buses on weekends needed
* more bus stop shelters
* personal safety at interchanges at night

p141  :P

'Satisfaction with last train trip', of those dissatisfied with facilities at train stations:
Not enough toilets /no toilets (47%)

... and it goes on like this all through the survey!
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Example of the type of information that you can see in their survey, warts and all!

On 612 ABC Brisbane radio this afternoon  I was invited to participate in an interview on train performance with Drive presenter Kelly Higgins Devine.

During the interview I mentioned the example of statistics from Perth and that similar data hopefully could be made available here in Queensland.

Seed sown.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...
