Single track only available between Corinda and Sherwood ????

Woke up a bit dusty this morning so decided to catch a later train, the 7.29 from Oxley. It duly arrived on time and then travelled a whole station to Corinda where the driver announced that we would be waiting between 6-8 minutes (turned out to be around 10mins) because of major track work which has resulted in only a single track available between Corinda and Sherwood.

So we duly waited while an express train was allowed to go through and then the poor commuters already on the train and those even poorer souls waiting on the downstream stations grew increasingly in numbers and angst. By Graceville the train was full, no spare seats and little if any standing room available, however as a testament to the fortitude of citytrain commuters, thousands more were crammed into the carriages particularly from the major centres of Indooroopilly and Toowong.

Once underway the train driver managed to keep the disruption to a minimum and arrived at Central at 8.05am (due at 7.54am).

Just another story to add to the mix, but seriously QR what sort of major track work is authorised or undertaken to result in a single track availability on the busiest QR passenger rail line?

Mozz, it may have been due to the line being closed  (main down) because of the Indooroopilly station work.

This means all the trains need to use the suburban down line, it is possible that because of timetable issues this caused your delay today.  Normally the express services run on the main down line, but all are running on the suburban line at the moment.  One little glitch has ramifications ...

::)

PS.  Have just received further confirmation that the delays were due to the closure of the main down.  No other problems in the area.

Ok - so is there any idea, or published information from QR about which trains to catch that will run to the timetable and which ones will be delayed. Happy to play the game but I need to know the rules :(

There was a minor timetable revision on 12th Nov, a few services changed a minute or so.

Details here --> http://www.translink.com.au/qt/translin.nsf/index/tr_timetables#ipswich

If everything on time no problems, but with the single line for all trains at peak during the station upgrade it means it has to run like a Swiss watch.  It has been OK most days so far.
