Media Release 24 December 2009

SEQ:  Public Transport - thank you!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has thanked all public transport operators and staff for their efforts to provide timely and safe public transport throughout the year.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"RAIL Back On Track members appreciate the efforts made by rail crew, bus drivers and ferry crew in providing public transport services for the Queensland community throughout 2009."

"The support staff behind the scenes are equally important in the maintenance of services, for example train controllers, track and train maintenance and repair crews, bus control and maintenance staff, staff who maintain the CityCat and ferry fleet in operational readiness are also important part of public transport, thank you. Station staff, customer service representatives, Transit Officers and security staff and the Queensland Police Service also play an important role in assisting and ensuring the smooth transport of people which helps maintain safety and efficiency."

"Although we may not always agree with political positions we thank the the Minister for Transport Ms Nolan, the Opposition Spokesperson for Transport Ms Simpson and their respective staff for their ongoing commitment to public transport and wider transport commitments throughout Queensland during the year."

"TransLink provides an important coordination function including ticketing for public transport. Thank you!"

"There will be some consternation as the new fare strategy starts up on the 4th January. Public transport commuters need to be informed and seek advice if not sure of what to do with respect to go cards and other tickets.  TransLink has excellent web based resources on the go card (1) and we have compiled 'Go card survival tips for new users! (2)' which is based on the combined experiences of many active go card users."

"Best wishes to all for a successful 2010!"
